what kind? and do you like it?

I seem to be a kitchen gadget freak, and I use all of them. In the realm of rice cookers, I have a Black and Decker from Walmart <$20. I has been very good. I use it quite a bit. It is a pretty handy little thing to have. I have gotten in the habit of cooking up rice and dumping it in canned soup to make a meal. It does a good job with the rice and the clean up is quite easy, I just stick it in the dishwasher.

I have found that white rice cooks a little cleaner than brown rice in mine, but the dishwasher has never failed to clean it. (the clear glass cover is where it can look dirty, the bowl part it all comes out easily).

If you plan on using a lot of rice, a rice cooker is definitely a worthwhile thing to have!

I have 2 of them. They are in the basement.;) They are a pain to clean. It is just simpler to use a pot if you are only making 1cup of rice.

I did use my rice cooker frequently for awhile when we were eating rice all the time.

I use my Saladmaster electric skillet. It has two rice settings, one for white, one for brown rice.

I wanted one that was both stainless steel cooking pot (not a fan of the non stick finish), and made in USA.

This was the only brand I could find that was both. And I didn't want to pay the retail price, so I had to wait and watch until a new one came up on EBay.

Totally worth it! I love it!!

Cuisinart and my biggest complaint is that it can boil up and out the lid (there's a hole for steam to escape from). It does it more with brown rice because it requires more water. I love all my Cuisinart products but honestly, the best rice cooker I've seen are the cheapest ones.

i have a cute little red rice cooker that i love! i don't know what brand it is, but it cooks about 4 cups of rice. i know it was under $20 at walmart.

i didn't know how to cook rice, so i put it in a pot and just let it cook....the pot caught on fire and the rice was blacker than black! that's when i decided i needed the rice cooker and it's been the best ever!

Pampered Chef - goes in the microwave. The rice is perfect (and I'm picky since I lived in Japan for a year) and it works for a variety of other recipies as well. I made a great lava cake with it!

We are not rice eaters in this house (well, I like it....but nobody else does) so I never make it.

However....I recently went to a Pampered Chef party and the demonstrator showed us the rice cooker and how you can make the best mashed potatoes or chocolate lava cake in it. I figured it was just another selling scheme so I never got it.

But my friend bought it that night and she swears by it (for mashed potatoes anyways) So I know that I will definately buy one the next time someone has a party.

So I'm not sure if any of the other brands are capable of making other stuff in it, so you might want to look into the Pampered Chef one??? I know I'm sold. LOL And I think it's like $25....

We'll never go back to cooking rice any other way. It is truly "set it and forget it". Very easy to cook; very easy to clean. When I get home, I'll try to remember to post the brand and model.

I got my Zojurushi at Costco a couple years ago. It is perfect rice every time and not hard to clean, at all.

I got an aroma brand rice cooker, the biggest they make. And I love it. We eat a lot of rice though. We use it at least three times a week.

Yes.....my DF is half Thai and half American..so yes we have a rice cooker.. I love it at first I was reluctant to use it but DF taught me how to use it.....I will post the brand later...

BTW you can use it to steam veggies (which I love to put green beans and broccoli in it)....

I love my fuzzy logic Japanese rice cooker (large). It was over $100, but is SO easy to clean. Risotto come out really awesome! Dd has celiac, so we eat a lot of rice.

I have two rice cookers. One is a countertop model that I got from Aldi (Crofton brand) and it does fine, but is a pain to clean. I also have a microwave cooker that I prefer to use instead.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to check these all out.
I was looking on Amazon last night when I posted, there were so many to pick from!
We are big rice lovers here too so I think it will be a useful thing to have

Same here! I also use my Saladmaster electric skillet to make all kinds of things (lasagna, casseroles, even cake). I like my kitchen appliances to be multi-talented.

Plus the lava cake and mash potatoes are yummy too!!! I have sold over 20 rice cookers since I started selling PC last Feb!

I have a black and decker 3 cup one. Got it for 5$ on buy.com. Easy to cook, easy to clean! Use it every day
