Do you have a 'cash stash'?

My father would put a couple of 20's in an old eyeglass case. (the soft kind) He showed it to me once after my mom died and told me it was for just in case of emergency. Good thing he did. When I came home on emergency leave for my father's stroke, ( he died) my brother and sister were freaking out about having cash to cover some immediate expenses. I remembered the eyeglass case and they were amazed! There was around four thousand dollars in 20 dollar bills! It was a godsend. We were all still pretty young, in our early twenties, and didn't have the extra cash around to take care of the immediate expenses.

I have a small stash, but I haven't told anyone yet. It is only 200, but I plan on adding to it as I can.

I keep some cash in the house, under $1000 for emergencies, like power outages that would make your ATM card useless. Mainly I keep it if we need to leave town because of storm damage or something like that and we would need food, gas, hotel, etc and we couldn't use credit/atm cards.

I don't have anything like $40,000K. I do have a little mad money, though.

My grandparents stashed cash all over their house...taped under the garbage can, hidden behind walls, underneath carpeting, taped behind plumbing pipes, you name it.

It was a family joke that when they passed , we were going to have to tear down the house piece by piece just to make sure all the money was found

My entire pay check goes into our credit union. I haven't touched it in 6 years now. We live off DH's pay. DH also empties his pockets of all change and paper money into a plastic water bottle. We emptied it last year and it had close to $1100 in it.

I keep an emergency stash in my safe, but not anything like $40,000. I just like to have some extra cash at home in case something should happen when my bank isn't open.

I think it is ironic to stash money in a safe deposit box because ''you don't trust the bank''...

We keep a bit of extra cash in the house for emergencies (like power outages where ATMs may not work)...nothing really substantial though.
