Do you have a burial plot?

I was just thinking, since the death of MJ and the confusion over where he'll be buried, that I don't know where I'll be buried when my time comes. (I'm only 47, so I hope it isn't any time soon!)

My family members who have passed away are all in the same cemetery. But my parents and siblings have all moved to other cities. My dad bought plots where he now lives for himself and my mother, so they won't be in the "family cemetery".

I don't even know where I'll be living when I die, since DH and I want to live a retirement life in Florida years from now. I know some youngish people who have already bought their plots.

Do you have a plot ready?

No. I plan to be cremated. I'm the official grave-tender in the family (by default) and I don't want to saddle my children with that obligation.

No, because Dh and I will be cremated and my kids can decide what to do with me. They can bury me, sprinkle me or whatever else they decide.

My mom on the other hand has bought and sold several plots over the years. She even went so far as to buy one next to my cousin in laws (the girl who married my cousin) so she knew SOMEONE would remember to decorate her grave because she didn't think her daughter (me) would drive the 2 hours several times a year to decorate her grave site. She was right, it wasn't going to happen.

She now has a plot with my dads family that is only an hour each way. She is hoping that one of them will see that she is decorated several times a year. I told her I would make a yearly trip to decorate her, but that isn't really good enough.

DHs parents are only about a 1/2 hour away and I do go several times a year to change the flowers in their pots by their graves.

I don't want my kids to have to worry about who is putting out flowers blah, blah, blah.

Funny you should ask. I do. I have a double cremation plot in a memorial park. I got it at a Chamber of Commerce auction maybe, I don't know, fifteen-eighteen years ago? I wasn't forty yet, I'm sure of that. Why did I buy it? The deal. Value at the time was $995. I paid $169. I don't even know what they charge now. We buried one of my brothers there a few years ago.

Interestingly, I was looking at the CostCo site a couple of weeks ago, and picked out my own urn ;)

Yep- got it for Mothers Day last year. :lmao:
My DH's whole family is buried in a town about an hour away that I have only been in a few times. It was important for DH to be buried there and I could not possibly care less.
DH called me from the cemetary and said basically:
1) "Is it ok if I buy 2 plots here as the family is trying to secure an area to all be together?" Sure workd for me.
2). "Do you want to be under a tree or by a garden?" Don't care - you choose.
Voila! Final resting place decided! :cool1:

My mother passed away 2 weeks after I turned 22. I knew I wanted to be buried beside her no matter what so I purchased my burial plot then. I felt like I was too young to be purchasing my burial plot and honestly would not have done it at that age had I not lost my mother. My brothers also purchased plots there so we have a "family plot".

Nope, going to be cremated and sprinkled.:thumbsup2

Nope, going to be cremated and sprinkled.:thumbsup2

That is my plan also. Not to sound stupid. But isn't there laws about where you can sprinkle the ashes? :confused3 I always said I wanted a pinch of my ashes sprinkled at DW. Then after that my two DDs can do whatever they want with the rest of them.

My dad bought four plots many years ago. He told me that two are there for dh and I to use if we wish and if not, make sure he gets good neighbors!:thumbsup2

I am sure there are laws......

DH is going in the back timber. He loves to hunt. It is our land so I am not asking anyone!
I want to go to Hawaii.. DD already has the instructions.

Nope, no plot, I want to be cremated and guess where I want my ashes spread.;)

Yes but it was not my choice. Dh dad bought 4 graves. I really have no interest in being buried next to them so maybe we coulde sell them. Its in another state where we both used to live. Also I think there is some room in my familys plot too, but I dont think I want us to go there either. I really have never thought about it till I almost died this year. I guess I think I told dh to find somepleace around here if we dont move back to Texas. Maybe I should check it out? I used to work in the cemetary where my family is buried. Interesting, huh?

yes, when my aunt died in 1998 my grandad bought everyone in the whole family a burial plot.

My DH's parents bought 6 plots together. Lucky me I'll be buried next to my MIL who hated me and my BIL who has tolerated me through the years but has almost never talked to me in 31 years. I don't intend to die for a LONG time.

No, but I'll probably be buried with DH in the family cemetery at a small church in rural WV. He has several ancestral generations buried there. If not there, then we'll be buried by my parents at a church in rural Mississippi where I several generations of my ancestors are buried. The plots are reserved in WV for the family, so that's probably be where we RIP.

Yes. When my MIL died we bought the plot right next door.

I also plan on being cremated after they get done with me at whatever medical school is willing to work on this beat up old body. After that, DD can do whatever she wants with my ashes. If she wants the school to toss them in the trash, I have no problem with the idea. I don't plan to still be there. Hopefully, I'll be upstairs somewhere, not down here making an ash of myself! :goodvibes

yup.
when my mother-in-law died 10 years ago hubby & I bought the surrounding 10 plots . family plot area now.
we live in a township & they were only $50. each back then.
nice cemetery, you can have whatever gaudy marker you want :thumbsup2
( I hate those stuck-up places where they only allow flat markers)

nope, I'm om the "Toast and Toss" plan..cremated and ashes spread. I abhore dark places, call our basement the dungeon...can't imagine thinking it is the last place I will be put..and my kids will be mobil, more than likely no where near any cemetary I'd be buried at. But kuddos to those who have their plans made/organized.
