Do you guys tip your mousekeepers?

If you can't afford to tip, then you shouldn't be on vacation at WDW.

Just my two cents.

This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

Thanks I can afford to tip and choose not to. And yes, I sleep very well at night.

And as far as tipping housekeeping being standard, DH and I travel alot and I have never heard of tipping a hotel housekeeper until I came here.

That's just it, if it is "pretty normal" and acceptable by Disney standards, then Disney should openly acknowledge that Mousekeeping is a tipped position. Last time I checked, they had not. When they do, I will start tipping. :goodvibes

Just out of curiosity, why would Disney's determination of whether it is a tipped position- be a factor in your decision?

I've read thru the thread (and posted on page 2) and what I find interesting are some of the reasons that people are giving about why they don't tip:
it's an east-coast/west-coast thing, it's not a tipped position, it's not expected if you have a college degree in specific sectors of public service, or it's up to the corporation to determine if the ee's should be tipped.

At the end of the day I tip for the service, and it has absolutely nothing to do with what coast I'm on, what state I'm in, what the education level of the person providing the service is, or what the corporate policy is.

I give no excuse. I just don't. PERIOD

Yea, mousekeepers most of time do a good job, but if I tipped everyone who did a good job, or service for me., I would have no money left over for anything else.

As someone said, whats the big deal, if you tip or not. You do, I do not and can't see myself ever doing it!

I just don't tip housekeeping, either. I don't leave a big mess, I put all used towels in the tub, I don't leave barf or other bodily fluids for them to clean, all they really have to do for me is replace the towels, make the beds, replace the shampoo, empty the trash and run the vacuum. I just don't think the amount of work warrants a tip. Sorry the tippers cannot appreciate that.

It is not an issue of being able to afford it, I am just not inclined to do it.

I have only ever heard of tipping housekeeping on a cruise and they are "cabin stewards" so I don't know if that is a different position. They may have a few added responsibilities than regular hotel housekeeping. I have never tipped hotel housekeeping before.

I have been going to Disney for years and have never thought to tip mousekeeping. When we went in December, it seemed as if all they did was make the beds and give us towels. They didn't pick up our room nor did we expect them to.

Has anyone tipped and still experienced poor mousekeeping? Most services that have been mentioned, like hair stylists and waiters and waitresses, you see the results immediately and can determine your tip based on the quality of their service. Leaving out an envelope of money for services not yet rendered, just wondering if anyone has been burned?

Because Disney is their employer, not me. If Disney chooses to pay them below minimum wage (my hint that mousekeeping is a tipped position), then I will tip them for a job well done. Until then, I will leave it up to Disney to make sure that its employees are fairly compensated. I certainly feel that I pay Disney enough to do just that.
