I am backdooring this question for another reason, but I wil get to that shortly.

I am wondering if several of you campers go to Universal Studios? If so how do you get there? If there was a Campsite closer to Universal would you stay there on your way to Disney?

Ok to the real reason I am asking. I am working with a couple of partners in securing some property relativly close to Universal(About a mile). This would be a very plain campground, we know that, but would have your hook-ups, pool and small store. And would only have about 50-60 sites. We are figuring nightly of $35-50 depending on season.

Ok here is where I am calling on you DIS members. What are you thoughts? Comments? Recomendations? Yes we plan on having a fire ring but please dont start the flaming already.

THANKS FELLOW DISer's

I love Fort Wilderness so please don't get me wrong. But another campground near Universal would be a great idea. I have a MIL that lives closer to Universal and we are taking a split trip in November that would have been nice to stay someplace closer to her. I know there are a couple out there, but they are even more expensive than the Fort. I would suggest a couple of things we look for in a campground (and it doesn't have to be fancy, cleanliness is more important than anything to me), 50 amp service would be a plus for big rigs. Maybe a couple pull thru spots would be nice. Are you going to offer sewer at each of the spots? I think this is a major plus rather than just a dumping station. What about comfort stations and playground for kids? Please keep us updated on the progress!!!!

Nope, never been, never want to. Our family would never go along with losing days at the Fort to stay somewhere else. However, I am sure there are others who would welcome a campground near Universal.

We don't go to Universal. Our reason is we have 4 kids that we provide ap's for yearly. Add that to 4 adult passes (DH, DD 11, DS 19 and myself) and we are spending thousands a year just for Disney. I can't see going somewhere else to spend more money. However, I am sure that I could talk them into a day here or there, but I am not interested in going myself as my 4 yo does not "do rides" at this moment. I do think that another campground close would be nice, but it really does need to compete with Ft. W to get the customers. A playground, daytime activities and other things for kids to do. Also, a themed pool with slides would be the added plus that Ft. Wilderness does not offer. You may get a lot of interest with that one. I have gone before and not visited the parks so the pool held the most interest for the kids.

We by far are no way going to compete against FT. Nor do we really want to. Coming from a Disney addict I want to take nothing away from Disney. I was just hoping this might be a stopping point on your way to FT Wilderness. That is one of the reason's I put it in this area of the board. There are 3 other campgrounds in relation to Disney but none in close relation to Universal. And since camping and RVing is on such a rise we where hoping to fill a little void there.

and UGA you have to come to the Campground 2 of us are UGA grads. GO DAWGS!!!!

I should have known you were a DAWG by your location! Jacksonville has such a large contingent of DAWGS. So, in that case, we might just have to stop by your campground. Oh, and I do with agree with MrsGus that having a themed type pool with a slide would be a huge drawing point. The lack of that at the Fort is our only complaint.

We are passholders to Universal. We stay at FW and take the truck to the park. It would have to be a CG like FW before we change.

Well you would have to compete with FW and Tropical Palms. TP is our second choice when we can't get into FW. They have a heated pool, paved sites, and playground.
It would probably work if you market it well and offer alot of perks! Great rates, free and frequent shuttles to Universal (possible WDW too) for those who take motor homes and no cars this would be huge! great playground and pool.
This is how we select a campground: ease of location, safety, price, activities (pool, playground, biking), bath houses, shuttles.
Good luck on your endeavor!

We're AP holders for Universal and we always stay at FW. Although we love Universal/Islands, I can't imagine every staying over there, as we consider it too "city-like" in that area. With that said, I think that there are people that would not mind it at all ...... especially now that FW seems to be booked to capacity during more times of the year.

Just wanted to find out if the OP ever followed up on this...looking for campsites near Universal, but don't want to fight to get site at FW if I can avoid it. We know how difficult getting sites at FW can be!

If my camp is set up at FW I'm not gonna take it down and put it back up 15-20 miutes down the road for a day or two at Universal.

Yes! I think it would great to have a place for a stop over for just a day or two on the way to FW. Something simple, clean and safe at a reasonable price!

IMO the most important thing you could offer would be a free shuttle to Universal.

Nope, nothing ever became of building a new Campground. Permitting was going to be an issue. And the land we where looking at skyrocketed when they expanded the outlet mall.

So if you happen to know someone with allot deeper pockets than I have, Please send them my way.
