do you get a map with your car hire?

does anyone know please if when you pick up your car hire you get a map??

we are travelling from airport to international drive.

any info would be appreciated

Yes we got a map when we picked up our hire car.
If you ask them they might even highlight the best route for you, they did this for us on our first couple of trips.

Didn't get a map from Alamo in 2002 but were given directions verbally,if your in any doubt ask for a map,verbal directions were ok for us as we've done the trip before.

I believe that Florida State law mandates that car hire companies give you a map and/or driving directions.

This came about at the same time that hire vehicle licence plates were changed to make them indistinguishable from 'normal' plates.

A few years ago, it was seemingly routine to 'carjack' hire cars as tourists becamse lost leaving the airports.

Most car hire desks have a pad of local maps - you simply tear off the top copy.

I think carjacking as "seemingly routine" is overstating things a bit - it was more a precaution for tourists in obvious rental cars who ended up in the wrong neighborhood and a response to a few incidents - I think from memory involving American tourists sleeping overnight in their cars in rest areas.

The maps they give out with the hire cars are usually a bit basic but will get you from the airport to I Drive ok - I would suggest going into a book store or the net and buying a more detailed map of the area if you intend doing more than shuttling betweeen hotel and Disney.

You can get excellent free maps from the Kissimmee St Cloud Tourist Information office - and they will mail them to the UK.
