Do you gain weight while at Disney? I normally have to watch what I eat or else I gain weight easily (I love to eat and dh is a chef). However we are taking advantage of the dining plan during our August trip (seven nights) and I will not deprive myself, meaning I will eat desserts, etc. I know we are going to be walking a lot, but I am not naive and do not expect that to preclude me from gaining weight. What has been your experience? And if you do gain some pounds, is going back to normal habits when you are back at home enough to go back to your regular weight?

no ive never gained weight. and you should eat more when you are there, you are most likely putting out more calories than usual. so as long as you are outting out more calories(excersizing) you can take in more calories. i wouldnt expect to loose weight unless you take in less calories than you put out.

I too have to really watch what I eat and exercise or I gain weight quickly. But I didn't while in WDW. I indulged while down there and didn't gain anything - talk about a vacation :goodvibes . There is a lot of walking, and I tried to get in a 30 minute power walk either early in the morning or when we got back in the evening as well. It didn't happen every day - but even some days help.

I'll be honest with you, DH, SIL and I ALL gained weight in Dec. 06 while on the DDP. We're doing the DDP again in the fall and I will NOT deprive myself. If I gain a few pounds, oh well, I'll take care of it after we get home! Also, I work out several days a week and watch what I eat most of the time to maintain a healthy weight and BMI. I will reward myself for my hard work by splurging at Disney. If I gain a few pounds again, I'll just add in a couple of extra workouts a week and cut back a little more until those few pounds come off.

My husband and I both thought coming home from our recent trip, "oh no, we didn't gain any weight. Look at all the walking we did!" Then we stepped on the scale. 6 to 8 pounds heavier. Oy. That doesn't mean that next trip I won't indulge myself and eat the good stuff, though!

I think what really affected us was the high calorie breakfasts/lunches. I don't usually eat both a big cinnamon bun or breakfast buffet and a big sandwich/fries/dessert combo in one day, then go out to a nice restaurant for dinner that night...but that was me at Disney World. The only thing I might do differently next time is either have fruit for breakfast or salad for lunch each day to kind of even things out nutritionally.

I guess the key would be ..eat in moderation, drink lots of water and plenty of rest.

It'll be hard for me since ive switched over to Organic foods....but im not going to worry....I plan on eating good food and walking around till my feet fall off. :rotfl2:

We definately don't gain any weight on the DDP. (and no, we don't normally eat that much at home) but with all the walking/swimming/sweating you'll be doing...you should be fine.

I gain weight every time at WDW even though I eat LESS than I do at home. I still can't figure out how eating less coupled with all that walking in the broiling Florida summer sun can make me gain weight... :confused3

Maybe this year I'll try to pig out every day and come home slim and svelt. :rotfl:

I'm another one that gains about 7 -12 lbs every trip. You'd think that with all the extra walking that we do that we'd lose weight, but not me. This past May I thought I was being so careful. I know soda makes me swell so I purposely drank alot of water and avoided the soda, I never cleaned my plate, and avoided the buffets. I seldom finished a dessert (even though I did eat two a day:rolleyes: ). When I got home, I still gained 7 lbs. My mom uses an ECV down there and only gains about 5-10lbs. My husband on the other hand always loses or maintains.:sad2:

Now I do gain weight very, very easily. I can go out and eat Mexican food or pizza and gain 2lbs overnight (and no it's not just fluid, it stays until I work it off).

Nope! I actually lose a bit it seems like and I eat a lot at CS! You will do a lot of walking which kinda cancels it out a bit. In fact on my last trip, me and one of my friends who was wearing a meter noted we walked over 2 miles in just a half day of touring.

Well, you'd think with all the walking everyone would come back lighter...but not us!

10 days at Disney on the Dining Plan and DH and I both gained 8 pounds. But it was well worth it!! Boma's, Glowtini's, Mickey head ice cream bars, Simba Paws, Dole Whips....yummmm! I did make sure to drink only DIET soda :rotfl: .

My husband and I don't typically gain weight when we go to Disney. We usually stay 9-10 days and eat whatever we want. For kicks last time, I wore a pedometer and we determined that we walk at least 6-7 miles a day which helps a lot. We usually either eat breakfast in our room or something quick, each a counter service lunch and then have a sit down dinner where we each get an appetizer and then share and entree and a dessert. We get a snack or two a day. That seems to work out best for us and we haven't gained weight - woohoo! All that walking does the trick.

When we were there last fall I was worried about gaining weight. I lost 40 pounds with WW last year before our trip and didn't want any of that back! But thankfully even though I let myself eat what I wanted, all that exercise must have balanced it out. I went home weighing the same as I did when I got there. :thumbsup2

ETA: I should mention, though, that we didn't do the DDP, so we weren't eating a lot of dessert or anything that we might have on the DDP.

Honestly, last time I went to Disney World, I gained between 5-10 pounds in a week. I tend to drop and gain 10 pounds quickly though. I ate A LOT though, but my pants were definetely very tight by the end, but it was Disney weight:rotfl: I just watched what I ate when I got back, and it was off within 2 weeks. We're heading back in September for free dining, and while I don't plan on gaining as much as last time, I'm sure it'll be some, oh well I'll be at Disney:cool1:

i eat dessert each nite and a caramel apple each day-- and worry about the xtra 3 or 4 pounds when i get home

And the weight gain at Disney is the EXACT reason I'm working so hard to be below 150 before I go, lol. I look at a dessert and gain 5 lbs, for real. Every single time I go on vacation anywhere I gain weight, NOT FAIR!

Just wanted to tell you congrats on your weight loss! Looks like you've come so far and only a bit more to go! You go girl!

after our trip in Oct for a week, i weighed myself and i was the same. We were on the DP (the good 'ole one w/ app and tip included) and ate like royalty! We were always eating! However, we got up early and were out walking all day, sweating, excited, and out til the wee hours of the morning which keeps your body running a lot longer than my routine at home.

Cant wait to indulge on my next trip!

I KNOW I gain weight when I go to Disney only because my clothes are tighter when I get home! LOL But, I'm not as brave as the rest of you, I don't dare step foot on the scale until the pants don't feel so tight anymore! :rotfl:
