Do you feel this way about the Poly?

I've heard people mention that while they love the resort, it's always so crowded with guests going to the restaurants and checking out the atmosphere that they feel like a visitor at their own resort.. like it's just too touristy and people are invading on their vacation.

thoughts?

I think the same thing could be said about all of the Deluxe Resorts, especially during the major holiday seasons.

I have mostly heard that there are too many "day visitors" to the volcano pool and that the hotel guests cant enjoy it. I have to say that while we are interested in trying out the Poly because of all the good things we have heard about it, the reports of the crowds do leave me wondering if it is worth it.

As for the restaurant guests, I do think that all of the better resorts at WDW (and at other vacation destinations we have been to) have restaurants that many people want to try, and I dont think that that ruins it for the resort guests.

We've stayed here on quite a few occasions back when discounts were better. With the rack increase and discounts less, we've moved on to the WL. When we stayed there, during the day its quite crowded, we didn't go peak season either, and some days alittle much. Late evenings the resort quiets down alot, most guests are just the resort guests and everything is wonderful. The volcano can and did get real crowded, don't know if there were outsiders in the pool, no one was checking ID's and lounges and tables were hard to be had. Quiet pool was empty most times but I didn't pay good money to swim away from the draw, main pool.

AS I stated with the price increase, separate longhouses, increased crowds and short discounts, we felt it wasn't worth the effort. Don't get me wrong, its a fantastic resort and if a good didcount came out we'd stay again but until then, WL gets our money.

I've stayed there a few times, and the pool experience has always been pretty crowded, even the quiet pool area. While I love the poly, love the lagoon/castle view, I can't bring myself to book there again because of the pool situation. And even moreso than the pool situatin is the fact we could end up w/ a room w/out a balcony. We had been lucky on our last trips and always got a balcony, but now I feel like my odds are against me and I'd be very, very unhappy w/out one. We use the balcony a lot... to me, besides transportation options, the balcony is the main difference from a mod to a deluxe, so if i'm paying deluxe, I WANT my balcony.

now I'm starting to get nervous about out october trip. I need a balcony (young kids go to bed early and take naps) and would like to be able to use the pool a little bit, and will be on my own with 3 little kids, if its too crazy, I won't be able to.

wondering if I should have just booked YC...I know I love that resort and have never felt overcrowded or crazy there.

I'm confused. Only resort guests can use the pool. I always go to the deluxe resorts for dinner and enjoy a nice cocktail in the lobby. I feel the lobby is the best part of the deluxe resorts and I enjoy visiting the restaurants. I get the best of both worlds without paying for a deluxe.

However, I would never use the pool.

And how would these people who complain about all the guests at the resort know who are guests and who "belong" there? Do the guests all wear Pluto hats so they stand out in the crowd? :rotfl:

Guests who pay Deluxe resort prices should be entitled to a pool situation where it is not overcrowded by nonguests or "dayvisitors" as someone termed them.

In my opinion, Disney should monitor all their pools so that resort guests don't wind up with an overcrowded situation...Yes, it that means wristbands at ALL CATEGORIES of hotels, from deluxe down to value, that should be done for a pleasurable less crowded pool situation.

Am I correct that I read that there is a monitoring system for pool use at SAB at YC/BC?

Thx.

We stayed there once and thought it to be super chaotic but we are still going back in August. We have visited the main house in the mid to late afternoon and it is very quiet and the tambu lounge is a great place to chill out. But early in the am and around 6 for dinner the place does get nuts

am wondering if its simply a matter of the pool size being too small for the resort size. haven't stayed there yet, but guessing that might be a possibility.

We had our first stay at the Poly in September (during free dining) and we didn't feel that way at all. There were lots of people walking around the lobby and outside around the resort, but we didn't think it was so crowded that it was unbearable :confused3. We had the best time when we were there and now the Poly is our #1 resort choice :cool1: :cool1:. We are booked at the WL for December (for the decorations), but we're seriously considering switching to the Poly because our first stay there was great and we love the atmosphere and location :goodvibes

Yes, that's right. Only registered guests can use SAB and it is strictly enforced.

The Poly has always been my dream resort since I was a kid. Last year we visited the resort on our trip, and this year we are having dinner there. I realize that there are people "resort hoppers" who use the pools at other resorts thereby making those resort pools too crowded for the paying guests. There are also the DVC members who can pool hop wherever they want as part of their DVC memberships and who are only restricted on this at certain times of the year. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on this one)

That having been said, I think that all of the Deluxe hotels (and I have not stayed at one yet) should have some kind of system like a key card gate that only guests will be able to get through. Resort pools should be only for the use of resort guests. It's the scammers and cheaters like the pool hoppers (not DVC) that make things so much more difficult for the rest of us.

I have never felt that way.

We unboard the monorail to the GCH & people go their ways.

We walk the path to our long house & you see a handful of families if that.

You hang out at the pool & usually get a chair to sit in. It is crowded but not unbearable at times.

When I see crowds it is usually at check in time around the check in desk. Meal times at the restaurants. Or when everyone is waiting for that one bus to come at the bus stop.

I have stayed at the Poly twice in September and never felt that way.

Have stayed at the Poly in summer and fall.

More often than not we cannot get a seat at the volcano pool and usually then walk over to the quiet pool.

Volcano pool is much too small for a deluxe. I've never seen the same crowds in pools at the CR or Gf that we see at Poly.

I've always felt it to be a 'busy' resort and I put myself in that frame of mine when we stay there.

I have to stress thatit doesn't ruin our time there.

I am an avid Poly lover and I do not feel that way, absolutely not. The Poly is there for everyone to enjoy and as long as they don't take a swim in the Volcano Pool I'm fine with it. Pool-hopping is not something I would do or condone. We stay at the Poly but we also stay at other resorts. Whenever we do stay some place else, we always eat at the Poly and take some time to walk around and soak in the atmosphere.

It's there for everyone to enjoy - and it's on the monorail line so I expect to have visitors who just want to check it out. Can you imagine if Disney banned guests from "visiting" the resorts - we would all be upset about that I think.

And the pool situation. I never really noticed a situation. sure, it was crowded but not unbearable. We've stayed at the Poly in February and July. Both times - no real issues. Got a chair both times. Right on the Seven Seas Lagoon. Can't beat that! The volcano pool is a bit small, I would agree with that - but it's still a great pool. Love the underwater music. Love the slide (yes, I'm an adult who likes slides). The Poly is so great, I don't mind crowds...it's just all part of the experience.

Just my 2 cents....

We stayed at the Polynesian on six different trips and that about sums up how we feel as well. We have never felt crowded or rushed.

That's what I was wondering...
