Do you feel disconnected with your past?

I went grocery shopping this evening and saw two people from my high school days that I probably haven't seen once since graduating (16 years ago). I never see anyone I know in this store because it's not in the same neighborhood as where we all grew up.

I said "hello" to one and pretended not to notice the other - why? It's just weird to see someone you know from 15+ years ago out of the blue, in "your territory".

I have a good face/name memory and always feel like I remember so much more than the other person so I pretend not to notice when I see them and they don't see me. It's not that I'm a snob, I just feel strange saying hello to someone I haven't seen in so long.

When I would go home to visit my parents I always saw people from HS at the grocery store. There is only one good one and pretty much everyone shops there. Unless I talked to them in HS I really don't talk to them now.

My Girlfriends and I all call each other and report who we have seen, if they have kids, married, etc. That's kind of fun.

I've done the same thing!! I'm sure we're not alone, it's just weird and seems strange to make small talk to someone you might not ever bump into again or ever have a friendship with !

I bumped into someone from HS days in Target a couple of months ago and then bumped into them AGAIN at the mall a few weeks ago.

But I am always seeing someone from my past here in St Charles County. People that live here know what I am talking about.

The first thing out of people's mouth around here is...So, what high school did YOU go to?"


I wondered if anyone else does that?

I had a pretty good time in high school, but when I graduated, it was over for me. I work with a guy who went to the same grade school, jr. high, and high school as me who seems to remember
and stay in touch with many from high school. He'll occasionally ask me if I remember so-and-so, and I never do. I don't mean to be a snob either, hope I'm not perceived that way
