Beth - I will try but I am one of these really pathetic people that even when texting I use the full versions of words! Text speak makes me cringe, though I overlook it if it's on a mobile phone :teeth: Try this.

Actually, the Europeans are worse when discussing British food than the Americans.
The French look down on our food with total disgust whilst eating horse meat and snails.

Lets not get into throwing stones whilst living in glass houses shall we? :)

can i agree and disagree please?
The French do not look down on our food, Im married to a French head chef, and spent 8 years of my life living in france, where i spent lots of time feeding the locals... :rotfl:
scones were a particular favourite, along with irish stew and dumplings... yes we have bad food here, but there is bad food everywhere including in France, US and the rest of the world.
I hate people who judge without tasting, or understanding the food they are eating...
but yes obi we should nt throw stones because there are always people who want chips in Europe and british bread in the states, dh says (in french obviously  when in roman... I think we should try and respect the food and the cultures in the places we visit...

sorry on soapbox :sad2:

I totally agree with that, unless you have tried it dont criticise it! Mind you i have noticed that some of the other boards on here can get very nasty comments. I was reading a thread on the WDW weddings board the other day ( as im planning a wdw wedding :goodvibes ) and one post was so nasty the other person got upset and so on.

Thats why i like this forum, people are much nicer! :goodvibes

I rarely get upset on this forum but I know that I will if I read a thread about taking children out of school (I always take my DD out of school) so I have now decided not to look at them anymore. The threads always get heated and go nowhere.

I am therefore now a very happy Diser.

Intolerence annoys me  I accept that an internet forum is largely an anonymous place but in my mind the same courtesy that applies in everday day life should still be applied here. :)

As Karen has already said though often the written word can come across as more blunt and to the point than the poster intends because of the lack of inflexion that you get in oral communication and the lack of body language that you get in a face to face situation. The use of smilies can help to correct the balance though

Text speak also annoys me, when people have a full keyboard to type with

Text speak drives me up the wall, especially as it's my generation who are the worst culprits :( Many of my school friends insist on using it on instant messenger conversations and it gets very irritating, sometimes I start asking them to translate and making a point of using proper English and grammar (as far as my knowledge of grammar rules allows anyway!) I always type my texts in proper English and use proper grammar too.

As for posts, I've developed a sixth sense for detecting threads where there's likely to be trouble which could upset, offend or just annoy me.

1, If the subject is a question which seems very simple and needs just a few replies but there's 4/5 pages of replies
2, The topic is a 'known' trouble causer or could lead to debate of one of these topics(taking kids out of school, refillable mugs)
3, The post is on the US community board! I've never seen a place so on edge, the slightest word wrong and there's 30 posters attacking you!!!

This seems to be the same on all messageboards, whatever the topic. Sad really that people can't just get along :(
