do you ever get really irritated by posts here?..
i just got really irritated by a post on the cruise line board...
someone worried that food in Europe would taste "weird"....
of course i kind of flamed her back (and then again in response to her response) but I'll leave it at that...
but it irritated me no end....
i love America (as unfortunately for you all, i never tire of saying), but some things just drive me mad....

do you know how many americans make fun of food in the UK?...possibly all of them....i don't think i've ever met an American who has nice things to say about British food.....
people who've never even been in the UK.........
that you can't get a good gourmet meal?.....in my experience food in the UK is superb....a bit pricey to be sure.....and the portions are kind of miniscule in comparison to what is typically served in the states (where each serving could feed the entire 82nd airborne division  )....

just a rant.....best to ignore me when i'm ranting....

I don't balme you for having a go back. I think we Brits have some of the best Chefs in the world and we have very varied tastes compared to some nations.

One thing that always surprises me though is how nasty some responses get, especially on the US boards.

Yes :)

I dislike it when somebody posts a thread asking a question about something specific (a restaurant/resort) then a poster comes along who doesn't know the answer and say's I have never done that/been there but goes on to talk all about themselves/family that is irrelevant to the OP :confused3

Seems to me they like the sound of their own voice

I also dislike text speak in posts

There was a programme on the TV a few years ago about a tour company in London and that offered coach trips to mainly American tourists - anyway there was a girl who had come to the UK convinced that all we ate were chipmunks!
Obviously someone as well informed as her is posting on the cruise boards........off to have a look :moped:

Well done Beth for retaliating, maybe they don't realise that ALL their food has a basis from another country, after all their country was initialy populated by people from other countries, mainly europe. Just because we don't have massive portions doesn't mean we starve! I am not a fan of traditional english food, ie roast, shepherds pie, meat and two veg type dinners but neither do I love hamburgers and chips.
I do feel that the vast majority of posters on the US boards seem to turn EVERY post into a debate of some kind and that they seem to imagine they are such great travellers when in actual fact not a lot of them ever go outside their own country. I sympathise with your rant.

There are a lot of things that irritate me on forums in general - I suppose that's because, just like real life, we're not all the same and some people have a higher opinion of themselves than others. It always irritates me (probably irrationally), when someone asks for an opinion on something which we, personally, have enjoyed. Then loads of others say it is rubbish and the OP decides not to go based on that. By all means, ask for people's opinions but, to me, regardless of what people say, if I want to do something I will do it and then if it's rubbish, learn a lesson from it and not go again. Everyone is different, though, and what some people enjoy others don't - I would never advise anyone not to do something just because I, personally, didn't enjoy it.

Oops, guess I've just waffled on a bit

Whoops Beth, I tracked back to that post you rad and it made me :furious: too! so I've added my two cents worth.

it's kind of stupid of me to lose it on a forum like this....
but sometimes i get very impatient with ignorance...(although I know i'm guilty of it more times than i'd like to admit)....

I thought you all knew it, but I am an American (living on the wrong side of the Atlantic)...

It's just funny what people think.....the fact is, in this age of globalization you can pretty much get any sort of cuisine (and their ingredients) anywhere in the world ....
so to say that the cruise ship will have to supply itself with weird tasting food is funny....i should have just laughed really...

by the way, i love shepards pie though i rarely eat it.....i'm mostly a vegetarian, although i occasionally fall of the wagon.....one of those times was on a recent trip to the UK when i ate haggis (sp?) for the first time....contrary to what i expected, it was really tasty.....i guess that was falling off my vegetarian wagon big time  ......

I think we all get a little irritated at times by posts or threads.

Just the way things are I am afraid, some people are a bit tactless and thoughtless in things they say from time to time.

Thank heavens the majority are great.

Nice to see Beth sticking up for us Brits.......again, I know you enjoy your time on the UK forums. :thumbsup2

I get annoyed by a few things too. It really annoys me when somebody posts a question, somebody replies with the answer and then later on someone else replies to the thread basically repeating the answer once again.

I love the food in our country. We have some fantastic restaurants and great chefs.

:wizard:

Beth, just to add I love haggis too, I used to be married to a Scot and we celebrated burns night in a very big way, we'd have dozens of friends round for dinner (some were also scots) and we'd pipe the haggis in and serve it after the address with tatties, neeps and a none too wee dram! As someone who doesn't like a lot of meat dishes I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Yes, yes and YES :goodvibes

The posts i hate the most are the ones on whether to take the kids out of school in term time or not
because the responses are sometimes way out of order, and personal!

I think sometimes things come across the wrong way in posts which if were said would not sound rude or offensive but can do in the written word!

Beth, I saw the very thread you are talking about and yes I have to say I found the opinion expressed a very narrow minded one! There is some terrific food available in Europe!

I also dislike text speak (probably because half the time I don't understand it :rotfl2: )

Actually, the Europeans are worse when discussing British food than the Americans.
The French look down on our food with total disgust whilst eating horse meat and snails.

Don't forget that most Americans have NEVER been outside their state let alone outside the country, but then, when you have such diversity of both food and cultures that the USA has within its borders, its hardly surprising.

Now, let us also NOT forget what most Britons are like on holiday.
You have all been to Spain, Greece etc, wher the British refuse point blank to eat "foreign muck" and insist on British food restaraunts where the can get the same meals that they eat at home.
How many people do you know who have only been to Florida and class the whole of the USA the same? that have never been to another state within that vast country? in fact we all know people who have never been outside the UK!
Why have british youngsters, particulary the girls got such a bad reputation for behaviour whilst on holiday, that they are renown across the world for their antics?

Lets not get into throwing stones whilst living in glass houses shall we? :)

it's the board that has the most useful WDW information for me since I also have to cross the Atlantic (and since i've used Simon's book for several years, from before I found this board, it also makes sense for me)..

but besides, the people on the UK boards are so nice, who wouldn't want to spend a bit of time here...

there isn't an american comedian who doesn't do a bit about British food.....which is funny, since as you pointed out, the vast majority of Americans have not only never been out of their state, have barely been out of their town, so how would they know....(the vast majority of people who grow up in suburban Detroit, never set foot in downtown Detroit EVER....in their whole lives....they're born, live and die, and never ever ever go downtown.....it's mind boggling...)

but getting back to british food, it's just one of those things Americans have grown up laughing about......for whatever reason....

but actually the post i reacted to, referred to European food ingredients in general....which was funnier (funny strange as opposed to funny ha ha) than any specific cuisine....

Beth - I will try but I am one of these really pathetic people that even when texting I use the full versions of words! Text speak makes me cringe, though I overlook it if it's on a mobile phone :teeth: Try this.

R U cmg 2 twn will i c u l8r?

(are you coming to town, will I see you later)

Please someone who knows what they are talking about tell me that made slight sense ;)
