Do you ever go by yourself to WDW

As a family we have gone down to WDW every year (sometimes twice) since joining DVC in 2003. We also sent my parents down, and have had other family come down with us.

As our daughter gets older, I am thinking of different ways to use our membership.

I have thought about possibly going down solo for a golf vacation. I am a huge golfer and golf fan, so I could go during the PGA Tour Stop (early November) and spend a long weekend watching and playing golf. Also - with the F&W Fest still going on, I think that would be a great little getaway for me.

What I want to know is - if you have gone on your own, what do you do? Are you ever uncomfortable (I am not the best traveler)? I can see doing the parks on my own, as we often split up now so everyone can do what they want.

Anyway - any tips or suggestions, or just your thoughts on going alone.

Thanks

Most of my trips are solo -- but that's because I'm working for the mouse.
Trips longer than 4 or days I do miss my DW -- but there's always something to do if you want to seek it out, or not and just relax in your villa. It's great with the right mindset!! Go! Enjoy! :):):)

I just returned Sunday from my "yearly solo trip". DH and I go around June and I go in October.

I am never uncomfortable. Just think...you get up when you want, you do what you want when you want, eat where you want....the possibilities are endless!! I go to the parks each time and have a wonderful time. I make ADR's for my favorite restaurants and I'm treated wonderfully. I'm not made to feel out of place because I'm alone; infact, the servers are wonderful. You're not seated way in the back away from the action either. This trip I ate at the Crystal Palace (CM's offer to take pictures of you with characters if you want) Rose and Crown Pub, Rainforest Cafe, and Cat Cora's new place on the Boardwalk. Oh and I had breakfast for the very first time in the Bakery on Main Street and "ate around the world" at the Food and Wine festival. I had a BALL incase you can't tell!!! I even went to Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween Party this past Friday night.

Yep...I go alone each year and I love it. Don't get me wrong...when my husband and I go we have a marvelous time. But October is "Mommy time".

Go for it....you'll be surprised at how much fun you can have!!! Feel free to pm me if you have more questions. :thumbsup2

I went in September by myself. Met a couple of friends down for part of the time and the rest on my own. I loved being on my own schedule for a couple of days - free to wander. Very relaxing vacation. Looking forward to our next family trip but it was peaceful to have a couple days alone in Disney.

Yes. They are different than family trips in feel, style and pace - but just as much fun in their own way.

I'm going by myself later this month and I'll let you know - I'm actually really looking forward to it. My only free time on previous trips this year was spent doing laundry : (

I'll be going solo next month and truly cannot wait. :thumbsup2

Ahhhhh, I can't even imagine how amazing your solo trips are.

I've always wanted to go on a solo trip, but I feel so guilty at the thought of leaving DH and DD at home while I'm soaking up the magic. Maybe when DD gets older, though, I will pull the trigger. After all, with DVC, I have 50 years of vacations in front of me. :thumbsup2

I take one solo trip every year, and I LOVE it. You wake up when you want to, go to sleep when you want to, eat where and when you want to, go where you want to go. You don't have to worry about anyone else's schedule. I admit, on occassion, I do get lonely, but that is very rare. I love my solo WDW trips, and I couldn't imagine not taking them; I need the one week of 'me time' every year for my own sanity. :)

I haven't done a solo DVC trip, just a solo CRO trip - Pop Century since it was just a couple of nights.

I loved it - move at my own pace, zig and zag at my own whim. I had several long conversations wtih CMs while waiting for parades, or with folks behind or in front of me in line. I don't usually start those up, but Disney brings out the friendliness in people.

The only thing that surprised me was that I wasn't interested in table service restaurants. I don't mind dining alone (especially at a place like Disney) and thought I would surely visit the Jiko open kitchen seating, but I just never got organized to get over there.

A fond memory was sitting in the parking lot at SSR (our home resort), parked looking over to Downtown Disney, and talking to my partner on the phone. I guess I should have made it a DVC trip since I just had to visit "home." :)

I did a solo trip, for a weekend (2 nights) a couple years ago. Now, I did meet up with people down there throughout my weekend so I wasn't alone the entire time. But it was great! I loved being able to do whatever I wanted and at my own pace!! I did not do any table service alone, just counter service. I stayed in a MK view room in the tower at CR and had a view of the castle from my pillow. I also did the Epcot Segway tour by myself and that was such a blast!!! I was in a group with 6 other people, and we all had such fun.

I'm here by myself now :) Having a great time! I get up when I want, do what I want, eat where and when I want, etc. And all the cast members have been great. I highly recommend it!

Most of my trips are solo, I enjoy going periodically with my family but I love my solo trips.
I like doing what I want to do, when I want. If I want to ride on the Haunted Mansion or the Tower of Terror 3 times in one trip I can, without someone complaining about it.
I bring a small note book to write down my wait times etc and that keeps me occupied, and I do strike up conversations with others while in line.
I do not mind eating by myself, I always make a point of going to the tea at the GF and have one or two other sit down meals while I am in WDW.
I like to go for 5 nights, this way I get to each of the parks at a leisurely pace.

I always make a point of going to the tea at the GF

How is that? I thought about it for this trip but for some reason hesitated. Can you tell me a little about it? Thanks!

I"m leaving Monday on my solo trip and I'm doing the tea at the GF. When I go with the family(DH and DS's 13 and 8) going to the GF for tea is not on their agenda. A little "too girly" for them, with finger sandwiches, scones etc.

I've done tea in the UK so it will be interesting to see how the GF does it.

So it's a real "tea" with the little finger sandwiches and such? Cool...can you do it without sandwiches, say just "sweets"?

Thanks for all this info; I think this is s omething I may want to include on my next "solo" trip. I definately know DH would NOT go for this; like you said..."too girly" for him! :rotfl:

There are several different choices for tea. I'm sure you could just do tea and sweets. It's not expensive at all. I think the most you would pay for "the works"(incl. champagne) is around $25.00 a person. It's wonderful. :thumbsup2

I actually did my first two solo Disney visits this year, within about two weeks of each other! I visited Disneyland Paris on my own and then later that month I spent the weekend in Orlando with my girlfriends. We stayed at the Gaylord Palms and when they left on Sunday, I checked into SSR and spent that afternoon/evening and the next day at Disney. :)

I didn't do a whole lot of anything - rode very few rides, in fact. I mostly just walked around at my own pace, taking lots of photos. It was divine. :thumbsup2
