I sold a games console for a decent price but haven't been paid in the last 12 hours. I know it's hardly any time at all when the limit it 3 days, but I dunno, I'm getting nervous of a nay-payer!

I assume you don’t ship until you get paid, right? I would not be surprised if people wait until the last minute to make the payment.

I don't ship until I've been paid, so no I don't get nervous. If the buyer doesn't end up paying, I'll cancel and relist the item. I also don't think 12 hours is a big deal considering the buyer could be sleeping during that time depending on the time zone difference.

Actually, eBay have upped their game recently - no more selling fees, no more PayPal. But I prefer the Vinted way - postage and insurance is paid for by the buyer (virtually nothing) and Vinted track the parcel from sender to buyer, only releasing the fees to the seller when the buyer has received the item.

Yes, won't even consider buying off eBay anymore. Especially since I would need to use PayPal for payment and have long closed my account there due to fraud.
You don't need to use PayPal for payment. I don't like using PayPal either so I get that concern but I buy on eBay frequently and I can buy items without using Paypal.

Oooh that is something I didn't know. Still won't likely buy off eBay anytime soon but if I was ever looking for something old or hard to find I might give it a chance now.

I didn't even know Ebay was still around! I just sell locally on Facebook Marketplace.

Finding rarer items is why I buy on eBay lol I've found some gems for a decent price on there. You just need to know where to look and avoid sellers with certain quirks (low review score, so anything below a 98% is a no).

I avoid Marketplace like the plague. So many con artists and bots. When I last tried to sell something on it, spammers jumped on it and I got 6 offers for the full amount - all depending on me sending Amazon Gift Vouchers to the buyer to free up funds, pay for postage and so on. To the tune of £50 a time. And more.

While I have lots of stuff to sell, I hate selling online. I tried it last year with some of DD15s old softball gear, but it was such a major hassle for the one bat I sold. I didn't use eBay for that one, but packing and shipping isn't easy when I already work full time. My mom used to sell a ton on eBay, but there are just as many scam buyers as there are scam sellers. It got to a point where she was taking video as she packaged things so she had proof that the buyers were lying about packaging or condition. I know some people use Facebook Marketplace, but I've seen a lot of people get hacked with it in my friend circles. I have no idea how it happens, but nearly everyone I know that sells on there has been a victim.

eBay definitely favors the buyer. Granted, I've only questioned it when the issue was legitimate, but still...such a pain. It is good to know that I no longer need to use PayPal, but I actually don't mind them...at least, not yet. Ultimately, eBay has been good for things like my Lenox ornament collection, purses, old books, etc. True story...but I also got my wedding band on eBay. The jeweler that sold us my engagement ring said they weren't able to order a matching band and couldn't find another mounting like it to create one. He wanted to charge a crazy amount for custom. I ended up finding one on eBay...real gold and decent clarity and color of the real diamonds in the setting. The jeweler was furious because he couldn't drain us for more money, but I found another jeweler who took my eBay find and made it into a matching band.

I don't mind the selling bit… unless the auction doesn't stack up that is! Oh and I could do without packing things up! lol!

I used to love selling on eBay maybe 10+ years ago. Very easy to get rid of stuff with no value to me, but make some extra cash. Now, I think maybe I've sold something once every 2 years. eBay favors the buyer so much. I've heard of horror stories where people ship something and the seller claims they just received a rock (or something similar to make the weight of the package) and eBay just believes them. Takes the money from the seller then you are out the item you sold. I would probably try again if it literally had no value to me and it would go to Goodwill if I didn't eBay it.

I have made hundreds of purchases on eBay and any problems I have had eBay has taken care of. Great place to look for obsolete parts

I haven't sold in eBay in a long time, but as a buyer I've become a lot more selective after having a bad experience a couple months ago.

In brief: I was sold a computer keyboard that was supposed to be new, but in fact it had several broken keys. Instead of what I'll do in the future--start a formal return--I had a back-and-forth with the seller, who turned out to be a scamster.

And the scam got worse after I returned the item, which I had to fight to return. The seller told eBay that I sent them back a box of sand, making me very sorry I hadn't videoed my packing the keyboard. At any rate, eBay stood by me and gave me the refund, probably because I have a 100% positive rating there spanning many years and the seller had sold maybe 3 things.

I now won't even consider purchasing something from an eBay seller who's sold fewer than 50 or 60 items and has a lower than 99% rating.

ETA: But as a buyer, that is the only bad experience I've had on eBay. And as a seller, I had only one not-wonderful experience, but it was easily resolved.

Never bought anything on ebay and never will, seems like way too many scams and no way to know who is legit until you find out they aren't. Buying anything used is one of those 'buyer beware' moments. If I am looking for something new, I would rather use one of the many reputable sites you can find online.

I do buy on eBay and I do get nervous, but I have been pretty lucky so far. My daughter likes to collect old American girl things. So for her birthday etc, I will order off there. Most of the sellers I have come across have been great. I feel better when I stick to a seller I have used before.

I sell a lot on ebay and buy a few things. I'd have to look but I'm over 2,000 sales and have had a few returns but no actual fraud. As a buyer especially there is zero concern as you can always open a return if the item is not as described.

It's kind of funny to hear people worry about fraud on there now considering when ebay first started you would win an auction and then send a money order or check (or cash!) to the seller.

Ebay still has selling fees. They have waived insertion (listing) fees for 250 items per month but you will still pay final value fees.
