Do you eat healthy at WDW?

I've been to Disney many times and I'm trying to decide if we do a good job of eating properly there. I know it's vacation and all but I'm just wondering how well everyone else does in this department.

I would have to say we are good about half our stay. We don't snack as much as some, but we tend to overeat there.

We will eat vegetarian part of the time; so, I would say that's the healthy times. I have a tendency to order rich dishes on my bad days and I would normally not make these dishes at home; so, I justify it that way. Also, we will go to buffets like Boma's and how can you not overeat there?

Well, how do you think you are at Disney with eating healthy or not?

Everything you eat there, you immediately walk off! :cool1: We eat when we are hungry and indulge if we want to! Like I said, the calories are immediatley walked off.
:goodvibes

I used to pig out and that contributed to my 25 lb. weight gain our first three years of marriage....oh boy did I eat those pretzil rolls at CRT!!!

Since losing 25 lbs. 1 1/2 ago...and actually loosing 3 of those lbs. WHILE on a 5 day WDW trip, I try to watch my portions, yet enjoy things I won't eat anywhere else. Ohana's is where I probably eat the most, but then balance it out the next day. I try to have a taste of my favs or do small portions of the sinfully delicious. We do soooooo much walking that I do just fine if I treat myself too much.

I eat salads where ever possible because I love um at Disney. Fav salad is at Pecos Bills, but I've tried them at proababaly every place they offer them! I always enjoy a Dole Whip, which is one of the healthier snacks to have. I also like the choco-dipped bananas on a stick because they are only 150 calories, very tasty, very refrehing, and tres satisfying. I also get fresh fruit for a snack whenever possible.

So yes, I don't go overboard or I generally feel gross. I do small portions of the "bad" stuff and if there is something naughty I really want to try, again I go for a small portion or make that my one and only treat of the day.

What I've learned....I never want to put those 25lbs back on and being thinner is better than anything I can put in my mouth!!! Especially looking good in those Disney trip photos!

No way, Jose! At Disney all bets are off. I pig out and worry about it later.

I agree. I try not to overeat anywhere, including Disney. I have lost weight over the past couple of years and I don't want to put it back on.

I am so careful all year about what I eat, when I go on vacation (anywhere) I refuse to stick to being good. We walk so much, it really isn't an issue for me. I usually come home weighing the same or less than when we left. It is vacation after all...

Everytime I go, it's a disaster as far as eating healthy. I justify it by saying I'm on "vacation", but it's not like my body gets rid of all of the extra pounds because they're "vacation pounds". :) My mom tried rationalizing it by saying we walk so much throughout the day. I bought a pedometer and I really don't walk that much more than I do on an average day at home and work because we just walk from one ride to another and sit down, or our TS meals usually last an hour to an hour and a half of sitting (and not to mention I could walk non-stop all day and never burn off all of the calories from the meals and snacks I eat there). So I've now come to the conclusion that this trip is going to be different. I'm not going to drink any soda (which is a HUGE sacrifice, I might break into tears several times), and I'm going to try to eat mostly salads during our meals (we do two TS meals a day), I am going to let myself have whatever snack but it feels better knowing I'm cutting back elsewhere. And hey, I'm on vacation! :teeth:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Ha ha ha... are you kidding??? Heck no I dont worry about what I eat at all when I am there because it is vacation. I will say if I had kids though I would be watching what they ate closely and only letting them have a few snacks in moderation.

I do eat more at WDW, but we are on the go for, what, 12, 13 hours a day. I try to eat salads, lighter things and avoid french fries, but at places like Boma I don't hold back. I hate the feeling of being "stuffed" so I try not to overindulge. Also, I drink a lot of water while we are there, so that tends to fill me up.

We find that we eat more smaller meals throughout the day instead of three large ones. But YEAH (of course) we eat more junk...mickey bars, pretzles, mickey bars, churros, mickey bars....

It's my vacation and I'll snack if I want to! :teeth:

From being a healthy eater for many years, I do find the "treat" foods no longer agree with me or taste as good as I remember them. I do have a burger or two at Peco's bills which I love. Actually that is the only place I do eat burgers all year. My husband and I eat red meat rarely...steak and burgers are a treat!

What I do on vacations and when dining out is I choose 1 treat per day. Breakfast for me is fuel...not a treat...so it's always an egg white omlette with veggies or fruit and oatmeal. lunch is usually a salad and a lean protein. A treat for me is a pasta dish, steak, and we share a dessert...and we do love wine  I have a sweet tooth but I have gotten so used to controlling it that I don't think about it anymore..I ordered a box of chocolate cigars for my DH during our last trip to WDW this past Sept and we just finished the last one a few days ago AND we gave away 2 of them.

It's just a way of life for us. We don't have dessert at home, so I guess desserts on vacation are our treat. I could never ever eat things like cheese soup, fried foods and ice cream. It just not the kind of food that tastes good to me. I don't feel like I give up anything by not having it, well maybe a few things like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity.

:worship: :worship: :worship: Can you be my willpower? :teeth: I wish I didn't like the taste of ice cream. But you know, you're right. If I go a long time without eating junk food or anything fried and then I do eat some it doesn't taste as good as it used to and it doesn't usually make me feel very good either.

On a serious note...what I do is really limit my carbs about a month before I go, and then I don't worry about it too much. There are places you can get salads, and ask for the usual dressin on the side. Buffets you can stick to a lower carb. You could always ask the chefs to make you something special(call a day or 2 a head). And I believe that Stella(the guy) from Low carb and loving it (Foodtv) works at the GF.

In all honesty I tend to eat less food while at WDW. Not by choice, but due to the lack of good vegetarian options in the parks. We would eat breakfast in the room, which was yogurt and a cup of coffee, and not eat again till dinner, which was usually a salad from the food court. We are pretty healthy eaters so I would put apples and cliff bars in our pack just in case. OK, I did buy some sour gummies at MK. We did go to California Grill one night and had a lot of drinks at PI a few nights. Not having kids really helps this too.

No need to be drastic. That's usually a quick path to giving in. Keep it simple. Give up soda and replace it with water. Have a salad at one TS meal per day but avoid fried foods period. That leaves you a wide variety of foods to enjoy. I find choosing to eat real meals ESPECIALLY breakfast enables me to avoid snacking except for the one mickey bar I always choose to have during the trip. And breakfast is usuallly something like a muffin or cereal.

Feel free to enjoy the sodas at club cool by the way but soda can pack a wallop calorie wise. Giving that up is probably enough by itself to keep the weight off.

hi
i am afraid a great big resounding "no". i work nights so my meals are always small as i don't feel hungry when i get home and certainly don't feel i could eat a meal when i get up, more often than not i lose weight and end up looking pale and pathetic. whilst i don't eat gross ammounts it is nice to have thre meals a day at the right times, have it cooked for me and not have to wash up. i love food and like going to different places to eat not always top spots, i am quite happy with budget if it is clean and cheerful, not long to jan 3rd, must get my fake sun tan out! :jumping1:  :cheer2:
