Just out of curiosity (please don't flame me or turn this into an argument), does anyone bring sanitizer or lysol wipes to clean off the phone/door handle/tv remote in the hotel room? I've heard before that the housekeeping do not clean those things usually, but i'm not sure if this is true?

We were thinking about bringing something to wipe those things off, and I was just curious if anyone else brings things to wipe of certain items in the room or not?

Yes, but I do think I go a little overboard. Lysol sells small travel size spray cans that I keep in my purse and carry on for the airplane and I spray the surfaces there for my DS. I also have Lysol travel wipes that I use on surfaces.

Once we arrive in the room I check the bed corners for bedbugs, lysol the phone, remote, light switches, door knobs, drawer pulls and toilet handle. I am well aware that this is excessive, but it helps me sleep at night.

Have a good trip!

Yes. Very good idea. We buy the lysol wipes, and take them out of the 'can' and put them in a ziplock. Keep your hands clean. Google pinworms sometime and you will learn that a tropical area full of children can be a potentially hazardous situation!! Not to mention stomach flu, etc. Couldnt hurt.

Yes, it is a good idea BUT I have never done it and probably never will.

Yes, we try our best to clean those things but if we don't, no biggie. A tip I read on here was to put the remote in a ziploc bag (a quart sized one will work) and usually that's what we do. I know it sounds goofy but at least this way it helps reduce the chances! :thumbsup2

I don't do any of those things. I haven't bought into the whole "hand-wash-use-sanitizer" thing that has gripped our nation for the past few years. And the last time I had even the sniffles was about 15 years ago. I travel to Disney World frequently and have never been sick while there or anywhere else.

Yep I've been doing that on my past couple of trips now...I bring clorox wipes and wipe down everything before we do anything in the room, especially the remote for the TV...ew!

And I hope you carry those into the parks to use on the rides where kids with runny noses hold onto the handle bars and on the seats in the monorail where a mother just changed the baby's diaper or in the wash rooms at the parks and hotels before you sit down.

As I've said before, I hope a germaphobe has been in the room right before me. Personnally, I grew up on the five-second rule, if it fell on the ground and you get it in the first five seconds, you are good to go.

I do the same! I also wipe down all flat surfaces...night stand, table, vanity, etc.

Yes, I know it's excessive, but I can't help it makes me feel better.

nope.. I am very much not a germ worrier.. My kids touch everything, the only thing I will check for is bed bugs..

Mrs. Ambassador is pretty fussy about this too. She sometimes requests new bedspreads if they are a bit ragged.

No. I glance around for general cleanliness but never wipe things down. I don't see anything wrong with either way.

:)

Well it's good to know that I am not considered to be 'weird' or I won't be the only one doing this. Thank you all for your replies!!!

No, I don't bring any cleaning supplies (other than detergent to do laundry) with me. I have been to WDW resorts 11x, 12x next month, and have never picked up an illness while there.

I'm not necessarily worried about getting sick but after watching a few morning news shows and reading newspapers it gets me a little bit worried about how clean the room actually is (not just the dirt that you can see but the stuff that you cannot).

I wipe down door handles, the remote, faucet handles, countertops, & tabletops.

I'm the same way (I travel with wipes and Clorox wipes), I clean wipe our seats, arm rest and table. When I get in the room I wipe phone, remote, light switches, door knobs, drawers, night table, anywhere I would place our things on. I started doing this when I lost my spleen (and get sick very often)...it helps me and enjoy my vacations. I do this even if we go away for a weekend.

I carry the hand sanitizer with us and do use it before we eat or have snacks. There have been a few times where we cleaned things up in the room as well, but for the most part, it is just using it prior to eating when out at the parks.
