when you cook to cut down cook time?

I just made stuffed peppers and instructions say I am supposed to mix raw beef with the rice and then cook it in the peppers but this seems like a bad idea. Actually, I cooked the beef, rice and boiled the peppers separately 3 days ago and now have what I need to make dinner as I recoup from surgery and wondered how many others cook in sections. I don't think it messes with flavor, does it?

If that's what the recipe says,I would follow the recipe. It does change the flavor of the dish.

The fat from the beef would add flavour to the rice when cooked together and the bulk of the rice would help the peppers hold their shape and absorb some of their moisture so that they don’t go soggy and slimy.
Be careful keeping rice too long. Do whatever you need to do to make life easier as you recuperate.
I often go off script and ‘improve’ recipes, adding a bit of this and that. I also often make some meals like lasagna or batstitso or moussaka bit by bit.

I use most recipe's as a "guideline" not a "rule." I just very often. made lasagna and even though most recipes call for eggs I never put eggs in cheese mixture. Eggs just aren't something I have on hand/use very often. In fact I just threw out half a dozen eggs last week because they were more than a month past the "sell by" date.

::yes:: And the juices from the peppers would have also flavored the beef and the rice.

But, I also use recipes as a guideline. If it's easier or makes more sense to cook things another way, then that's the way I do it.

I always have to drop the eggs in a cup of water to see if they float. The ones that float to the top are dead ones. (I remember this by thinking of how dead bodies float to the top of the water in cop shows.)

I take OLD EGGS and place them in a pot then cover with water. Bring to a boil for ONLY 1 minute and turn off heat source then cover pot for 12 minutes. Remove and place into a water ice bath for a couple of minutes then eat at leisure. easy-peasy Hard Boiled Eggs

I absolutely take shortcuts with recipes.

And I've never heard of putting raw ground beef in stuffed peppers! I always use leftover meat from another meal (ground beef or turkey I've browned for spaghetti sauce, shredded baked chicken, etc.)

I also "cheat" on twice-baked potatoes all the time. I cook them half-way in the microwave, scoop out the middles, mix with sour cream, cheese, and bacon bits, scoop it back in the half skins and finish them in the oven.

Fresh eggs last about 5 weeks, boiled 1 week.

My dad used to make stuffed peppers with raw ground pork. (The rice is cooked.) As long as they are assembled and cooked right away, it shouldn't be a problem with bacterial growing. He slowly steamed them and made sure they were cooked through. It's the same principle as making a stuffed pork roll where cooked ingredients are mixed with raw meat. Flatten the raw pork, slather one side with stuffing mixture like cooked rice, and roll up.

I found one slow cooker stuff peppers recipe which uses raw pork:
