Do you bag?

There was an editorial in our local paper on Saturday in which the author emphatically stated that he will never bag his own groceries. He said that recently, he went to the store and the cashier actually grumbled at him since he wasn't helping. He said that he told her that he was President and CEO of the I Don't Work Here So I'm Not Bagging Club.

Hmm, I didn't know that I was deposed of that title.. I wonder when that happened. :(

Until I'm an employee of the store... I don't bag.

How about you?

This may sound totally snobby, but I don't think it is my job to bag my own groceries. I will always wait for the bagger, or the cashier if their isn't a bagger to do it, even if there is a long line behind me.

SO on the other hand will jump right on in if there is no bagger, and begin bagging while cashier finishes ringing up. He told me that he likes to do his own bagging because of the way he packs, as opposed to the haphazard way baggers often pack.

I just wanted to add... even though I don't bag, I try to be a very pleasant customer in all other ways. :)

I bag if it's only the cashier standing there and I bought alot...just to be courteous to the person behind me. If there is a bageer or if I only bought a few things than they can bag :)

there are some stores here that don't bag and advertise as such...it helps them keep their costs lower.

at stores that do bag, i've never been asked to help.

No, I don't bag my own groceries. I actually had a cashier say "Sorry I can't help you bag your groceries" I just stood there and looked at her until she did it. I couldn't believe how rude that was!!!

I usually don't help unless I am in a hurry and the bagger is busy elseware. I did just the other day ask my 13 year old DS to bag to speed up the process when no bagger was available.

I don't let anyone bag but me.
That's not a problem usually, because I go through the self checkers.

Cashiers and baggers around here cannot bag. I'm tired of meat juice getting all over detergent and milk, and them loading plastic bags until they split.

It saves me a lot of time and aggravation to bag myself.

If nobody's there at the time to bag my groceries, sure, I'll do it myself. With a 2-year old in the cart, I'd rather bag my own then wait until someone gets to it. :)

Yes I do bag because I use the self-service checkout lanes. That way I don't have to talk to or deal with any rude checkout clerks.

I always bag my own groceries because I want it done a particular way. It would feel pretty stupid to stand there giving directions the whole time. And I'm certainly not going to waste that time waiting for a bagger to show up anyway.

We too have stores where you bag your own. Obviously I bag when I go there. There really are places where clerks are not allowed to bag (just like we have self service gas stations where the clerks are not allowed to help pump gas). Usually they have names like "Bag and Save" and you expect to bag your own.

Most of the other stores I don't help. There is usually a big "lip" on the counter in those stores that makes bagging from the customer side hard - and I am trapped on the other side of the cart until the cashier has it totally emptied anyway.

I always "TRY" to bag my own groceries because the baggers do a horrible job and I grew tired of bread being thrown on the bottom of a bag or meats with cleaning supplies. I try to bag but I'm often told by the bagger that I am not allowed to and that they have to do it. I'd rather do it myself.

If the cashier is busy and there is no bagger, yes, I help bag. I'm not very good at it though. The cashier usually has a couple of bags done while I'm still trying to get the plastic bags apart...lol. :)

Nope - I don't expect to bag my own groceries unless I go to Sack and Save or the self-checkout lane.

I have helped bag my own groceries just once, because I was truly in a hurry.

yep, I bag/help bag my groceries. :)

Yes I do... at least I always offer to help whenever possible. I just think it is fair to those behind me who would have to wait because of me. I don't mind doing it at all :)
