Do You Attend High School Reunions?

Do you attend your high school unions? My husband went to one of his because he liked the woman organizing it and didn't have too far to travel to get there since he is from central California. He didn't know most of the people there, and the people that he was hoping to see weren't there.

People organizing high school reunions have complained about having a very difficult time getting people interested in attending. Apparently for a lot of people growing up was a time in their lives they just don't care to remember. I remember complaining bitterly that what I was learning in school was useless to me, and I still think that much of it was.

Do you attend your high school reunions? Why? Why not?

I dragged DH to the 5 year (too soon), and then went with a bunch of girls (without husbands) to the 15 year - ugh - still the pettiness!

I am old and haven't made it to any others. I found out that fat girls don't go to HS reunions (well, that was the way it was at the 15 year). I may go to the 40 year.

DS is helping to organize his 10 year for next month. I hope it goes well.

My 10 year was last year and dbf's 10 year was the year before. Neither of us went. For the most part, we still keep in contact with people we were friends with back then. No need to see what anyone else is up to. ;)

I went to my 10 year but not 20 year. At the 10 year all the cliques ended up together again. My friends and I decided that if we wanted to get together we didn't need a reunion to do it. We paid close to $100 per couple to attend the reunion and all we got out of it was a bad meal. I didn't enjoy it and won't go again.

I dragged my best friend and husband to our 10 year because there was ONE person I wanted to see (I couldn't find her anywhere and hoped she would show up). My BFF and DH both threatened to kill me if they ever made them go again. Our 22 year reunion (our class was lazy and couldn't get a 20 year organized) was on my 40th birthday this year so I passed.

We still keep in touch with 10 friends from high school. We will not be going to any more reunions because if I wanted to see these people I would see them more than every 10 years. The same cliques still hung out together. The same people still talked to each other. If I wanted to do this I could just have my HS friends over for dinner.:confused3

Nope. Once I graduated I was done that school and want nothing else to do with it.

I went to a very, very small school and we all spent a lot of time together. Even if you weren't "friends" with someone, you still knew them pretty darn well.

Our 10 year was this year, and it was really fun and super laid back. Everyone remarked how funny it was that even though we hadn't seen some people in 10 years, you still felt like you knew them really well. I imagine I'll be back for future ones.

YES~!

I go to every one of them. I am on the planning committee for our next.

Ours are a full on 4 day long weekend event. We pick a place in the USA and all drive or fly in from all over the world (literally) and some people stay longer than 4 days.

We all went to an American school in Kenya (most of us boarding), so we are very close.

Next summer is our 25th and we picked Chicago this time. I can't wait!

Nope - went to one I think many years ago. # 45 coming up ..... I wonder how many people do go to these things? Maybe I'll go to the 50th. That will be in 2014 -------------

Haven't been to any of mine. I did ask a friend of mine ahem several ahem years if she was going to go to our reunioun and she said "Heck no I didn't like them then why would I want to see them now?!" She had a good point and neither one of us went. I don't regret it and have no intention of ever going to one.

I traveled to my 20th last weekend, 700 miles away. It was a blast!

I skipped my 10th. I attended my 20th reunion. The majority of the people there were the super "soshe" cretins who used to crap on me and my friends when I was in HS. I think I split after 30 minutes. My 30th was this year, needless to say I didn't attend.

Graduated in 1972 from h.s. and went to our 10th in Aug 1982. Most of my friends that I had been out of touch with were at the reunion and were either pregnant or just had a babe. I had had DS#1 that June. We had a BLAST. We did all bring our hubbies and they all talked together and had a fine time with each other as they did not know anyone going into the reunion....so all my friends and I were thrilled that the hubbies were not sitting there bored to tears. :goodvibes

FF to my 35th reunion last year. I was unable to attend any after the 10th so made it a point to try to get to the 35th.

I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE. All of us that had babes in 1982 (or before) were discussing our kiddos being recent or new college graduates :scared1: or being recently engaged or just married :scared1:

HOW TIME FLIES!!! ::yes::

I had so much fun and DH (not remembering anyone at all) did have a fine time as well as so many graduates bring there spouses. What was so great as vs my 10th was that now everything is done with email. The committee had sent out everyone's email addresses after they had complied them all. I emailed EVERYONE, all my friends and we were emailing for MONTHS prior to the reunion so by the time the reunion rolled around we all were beyond excitement to get to it and see each other. Everyone brings pictures of their families.

ALL IN ALL: FABULOUS and the committee has been active in planning already the 40th.

If anyone asks me about going to their h.s. reunion, I say ABSOLUTELY!!! :dance3:

I'd rather clean out the bathroom drains.

The people I cared about, I've kept in touch with. I don't give a hoot about what happened to the rest of them. I can't imagine anything more tedious than a high school reunion, and I'm a person who liked high school.

In regards to this... I was one of those fat girls in HS, and have told myself the only way I'd go to a reunion is if I'm thin and beautiful by that time.

I haven't heard any news of reunions happening thus far, but the ten-year mark is coming up in about two years, so we'll see what happens. ;)

Yes, we have gone to my DH's reunions, and mine a few weeks back. It was a blast and we will go again to the next one!

I went to my 10th and 20th reunions with DH. I had a good time and he sat with my cousin's husband and talked, but wanted to leave ASAP. I missed out on lots of the fun.

We didn't have any more reunions until our 40th, two years ago. My cousin and I went and left our DHs at home. We had a great time! We didn't have to worry that they were bored. Most of the people who went to the reunion were the ones who moved out of town, including me. Those who remained locals didn't bother. Many of the attendees had not gone to prior parties and had done some very interesting things over the years. It was worth the trip.

Nope! If I haven't wanted to talk to them in 15 years why would I spend money to not talk to them at a reunion? I still live in the same town and I see people that I went to high school with from time to time. High school was not the end all be all time of my life. It was fun and I was involved with several school activities, but I've moved on.

Nope, no interest.

A friend went to our 20th and she tells me that most of our fellow graduates didn't exceed her expectations, which were not that high.
