Do you attach stocking holders to your mantle?

I'm trying to figure out a good way to attach our stocking holders to our mantle. Any suggestions? I thought about wiring them on somehow, but I can't figure out how to get the wire all the way around the mantle. Our mantle is made of marble, the fireplace is stone, and the wall behind is paneled. The stone from the fireplace sticks out beyond the wall, and the mantle sticks out a bit farther.

The stocking holders are fairly heavy, but not heavy enough to support full stockings. They're an accident waiting to happen even when the stockings are empty -- I can just see a little one pulling on the stocking and getting bonked on the head with the holder.

Our stocking holders just sit there.....they do fine with a heavy sotcking.
But.,....you do have to find some good ones....others have tended to fall off. We have Hallmark ones with rubber under them, so they actually grip better with a full stocking.

A couple of years ago I was sure that our REALLY heavy holders would hold the full stockings just fine. Until I let go and one went crashing down, slashing our gas fireplace screen as it went. Now Santa lays the full stockings on the hearth and the kids are fine with it.
I do NOT need a Christmas morning ER visit for a head wound due to a stocking holder. LOL!

I can sympathize with you! I had the stocking holder not really holding the stockings once they were full for years but I finally got these great stocking holders at Hallmark. They are heavy brass and the arm that comes out which is the hook is really long which makes a big difference. I think it works because it's heavy and it's long. The back part comes in 2 shapes a tree and a star. They carried them for a couple of years as I remember getting another one a year later at 50% off after Christmas sale.

Good luck!

dd pulled on a stocking on stocking holder when she was three
it hit her smack in the middle of her forehead and split if open
it was a mess
we nailed them underneath ever since empty
santa leaves the full ones on the hearth

the nailed ones look like they are hanging on the holders if you do it right

We don't have a mantel--we bought some peg shelves at IKEA that work wonderfully. When Santa visits--he places the stockings on the table as the kids have to eat breakfast before opening presents--the stocking is their first stop, then breakfast, then presents.

We just used the weighted holder which sit on the mantle to hold the empty stockings. After Santa filled them, he'd usually just set them on the hearth for the kids to find.

We have some clever large wooden hook like holders-they have large balls on each end and hang there. They hold the empty stockings quite well and would not hurt if they fell on you. Ordered from some catalog a few years back-I remember they were pricey.
After Santa fills them, they are placed on the floor in front of the fireplace. Too heavy!

I'm using command adhesives on the backside of the mantle.

We use the same thing...are these not the greatest thing?? :)
