Do we really need Tide Pod donuts?

Hurts donuts are a local company and they are amazing!!!! If you get a chance to ever try them do they are rapidly growing company

If people are stupid enough to eat laundry soap then they deserve what happens to them

I don't even use laundry pods, but if they end up getting rid of them because of this stupidity, it will make me angry. I don't agree with knee-jerk baby proofing of society based on the actions of a select group of idiots. I saw a video on Youtube showing how all the Tide Pods at someone's local store have now been locked up in plastic boxes.

All kidding aside, for some weird reason detergent pods are apparently very compelling to dementia sufferers. I'm guessing the danger is made worse because care-givers don't think about it the same way parents of little kids do. It hurts my heart to think of a vulnerable elder suffering in such an awful, undignified way. I'm actually glad this stupid Tide-Pod Challenge has publicised the issue so care-givers can be more careful with storing these products.

Why is it that only Tide Pods seem to be a threat to society? What about the dishwasher pods from Cascade? I only use Tide Pods when I travel; I found the package next to impossible to get open.

Cause Tide pods are bright & pretty, Cascade are just white with flecks - who wants to eat that?:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I read this too. My grandma died of dementia so all the jokes and memes about it really bother me. The article I read said it’s because they were looking for something sweet and they look like candy. To the best of my knowledge she never did anything like that but she did do some crazy, sometimes dangerous stuff that just wasn’t even on our radar.

I just can't help wondering how people come up with these things - trying/eating Tide-Pods. Was one person high one day, hungry and had no food around? Did anyone ever trying drinking laundry detergent? I just can't comprehend this.

Yep. They're *fabulous* for travel - toss a couple in your 3-1-1 bag and they're even carry-on friendly, and save having to buy it when you arrive. And they've been great for 'portioning' detergent when my kids do their own laundry because otherwise they tend to use too much.

Me too! For the same reason - i can tell one of the kids to throw a load of clothes in and not worry about it.

Anyways, quoting my teenage children:

"No, we would not eat laundry soap pods, that's disgusting. And, that's so old anyway...Mom, by the time parents have heard about something from youtube, it's already over." (Meaning the trend. Apparently this has been going on for more than a year and it stopped being "cool" a long time ago)

At least in my kids' eyes. Y(kids')MMV

Your kids are more in touch than mine... None of the three teens under my roof had ever heard of this one. They've told me about some of the other stupid things that have gone around, the cinnamon thing, playing tennis with a ball soaked in oil/gas and lit on fire, etc., but none of them were aware of this one.

When I first read about this. I asked the 17 year old had she heard about the Tide pod challenge. She was like yes. Its where you get your clothes really dirty and then see if Tide cleans the stains. I got a good laugh out of that answer. She had been hearing about the challenge, but not paying attention to what it really was and genuinely thought it was like a laundry contest or something. It never occurred to her people might be doing anything else.

When I told her what it really was. She was like, but aren’t they poisonous, isn’t that unsafe? She was so confused as to why anyone would want to do that. She just kept repeating to herself, I thought the challenge was about getting your clothes clean.

I don’t think the idea is to actually eat it. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the challenge. However, I thought that the kids doing this knew it was dangerous and toxic, and that was part of the appeal. I thought the idea was to put the pod in your mouth and see how long you could keep it in without it dissolving. Kind of like I lasted 5 seconds. Well, I lasted 15 seconds. They know the packaging dissolves when wet. They are trying to prove how brave they are to put something toxic intentionally in their mouths. As invincible teens, they think nothing will go wrong, and they’ll be able to spit out before the protective packaging completely dissolves.

Got it!!! Thanks!! That makes sense. See have no clue what is in and what is out/etc.

I think it started with a few children that got a hold of them that parents weren't watching and then went from there.

I love the pods. I'm not sure if we use them at home (I don't do Laundry that is my husband's job) we use teh cascade ones that are also colorful for the dishwasher.

No one in my house (including the cats) seem interested in eating them and they are really convienent espeically for travel. We just got back from a cruise and being able to have a little baggie with tide pods and dryer sheets in it for laundry is awesome. (I hate the powder and liquid is harder for travel)

I think parents everywhere would prefer your version of the challenge... I mean it necessitates that the teenager does a load of laundry...
