This is our first trip via airplane with a laptop. Will anything on it be ruined going through the security machines? Do we need something special? I was just going to carry it in my tote bag..is this ok enough?
Thanks....

we take our laptop everywhere. TF Green asks you to take it out of your carry on/bag and put it in a separate bin, it goes through the security scanner and you pick it up on the other side and put it back in your carry on/bag.

Once upon a time, TSA had you turn it on when you got up to the agents..... They haven't asked us to do that for a long time... but things change day to day with them.

You shouldn't have any problems and the scanner shouldn't damage your laptop at all.

Fear not. You have to take the laptop out of any carrying case and put it in one of the plastic bins and pass it through the detector, along with your coat, shoes, hand luggage and small animals (well, not the animals).

They see thousands of laptops a day. Heck, I put mine through four times this week...

My husband travels with his laptop all the time. He always has to take it out of the case and put it in a bin to go through the machine. Sometimes he is asked to open the laptop and turn it on. Like another poster said, he hasn't been asked to do so lately.
