Do you guys think we will need reservations for dinner at Storytellers? The dinner and lunch menu are the same right? What is that number again? 714-xxx-xxxx

Don't know about lunch or dinner but we made reservations for our character breakfast.

# is (714) 781-DINE (3463)

You probably should make ressies but they will take you on a walk in if there is room. Just a quick FYI, when we went in there my DD7 refused to stay. There was a very heavy smoke smell in the air, she looked at me said "Mom, it stinks in here, I can't breathe." needless to say we didn't stay. Now, that does have something to do with the fact that we had a major house fire a couple years ago and smoke still triggers memories for her but just wanted to toss that out there.

We went there for the character breakfast on November 2nd without a ressie. It was fairly slow and they seated us right away. However, if it's important to you to eat there for a dinner I might make a ressie just to be safe.

There's wasn't any hint of a smoke smell when we were there. Plus the hotel has always been completely non-smoking.

Pixiewings71, when did you go there? They did have a fire in the lobby a couple of years ago (Christmas tree fiasco!). Maybe that's what you and your daughter smelled - some leftover smoke smell from that? Or maybe they had a little fire in the kitchen that day.

I believe the lunch and dinner menus are the same, except they add a buffet at dinner. We have called Disney Dining and gotten PS that same day, but if you know when you want to go, I'd make PS just to be sure.

Ummm, we were there the 3rd-6th of November....so just over a week ago. We went in Sunday night looking for a good place for dinner and it smelled so smoky! Jade is normally OK unless the smell is really strong. We were also in DL the weekend before that and she had no problems with the wildfire smell, but we all smelled the smoke in the restaurant. I don't think it had anything to do with a fire in the lobby from a couple years ago! LOL It was wood smoke, very strong wood smoke. It wasn't cigarette smoke either. There was NO trace of smoke outside but we all smelled it when we walked in. I am aware the hotel is non-smoking, we did stay there the 3rd-6th and again, smelled smoke no place except the Storyteller's. Maybe there was a fire in the kitchen but when I gave back the menu and asked if it was always smoky in there the hostess said "well, we DO make wood baked pizzas". IMO it was much to heavy for simply wood smoked pizzas so we just left and didn't go back.

Our house fire was Jan 1st 2006 so it's been almost 2 years, she was 6 when it happened. She's fine around campfires and we went to the fireplace in the GC and listened to the stories and she was fine there as well. We have a fireplace at home and use it so she's exposed to smoke regularly. LOL That sounds bad.....LOL Anyway, it's not every time she smells smoke, just when it's really strong.

The reason you smell smoke is because in the corner up from the restaurant is a smokers corner. The short cut we took to PPH we would run head long into a bunch of smokers. I think they are miss placed because of the construction going on. So be prepared to walk through smoke litterly:3dglasses

Yes, they do the make your own pizzas there. I think they also smoke ribs there, so maybe that was the smell?

Ok, again, it was absolutely NOT cigarette smoke. There was absolutely NO smoke smell outside, it was only when we walked into the restaurant that we smelled smoke. We actually stood outside looking at the menu for about 3 minutes before we decided to ask about the kids menu. I know the difference between cigarettes and wood smoke, it is very noticeable. My Grandparents smoked when I was younger, I have friends that smoke (not around me as it bothers my lungs) and co-workers that smoke. That was definitely wood smoke and NOT cigarettes. And we stayed at the GCH, we walked every corner of that hotel and didn't run into any smokers. I'm sure there is an area for it but there was no one there when we were walking around.

Maybe it was the ribs, as I said it was very woody and very smoky.

Better to have a ps and not need it than need a ps and not have it. We booked one even though we are staying onsite in the hotel.

I always err on the side of caution and make PS requests wherever I intend to eat.

As far as the smoke, don't they make their pizzas in a wood-fired oven? That very well may have been the smokey smell. Here is a description from off their menu:

Build-Your-Own Pizza
From our wood-burning oven. A 9-inch pizza with tomato sauce and
mozzarella cheese on traditional or wheat dough. Choice of three
fresh toppings: pepperoni, sausage, ham, pineapple, roasted
potatoes, blue cheese, sliced roma tomatoes, mushrooms,
roasted bell peppers, red onions or artichoke hearts.
$14.29
each additional topping $1.29

They also have fireplaces in the restaurant, I sat next to one last week and about fried to death.

That was what the hostess said it was from too. It probably was, I was just trying to be helpful and let the OP know what our experience was. I'm not in anyway saying it's always like that, it was just an fyi from our experience.

On another note..I bet those pizzas are really good!! Maybe we will go back when we do a "big kids" trip. :)

The pizza from the kid's menu is a "make your own pizza" for $7.99 (plain with cheese, or pepperoni). The child gets their own chef's hat to wear too.:)

No advice on the PS (although I'm all for the "safer with a PS" route), but I just wanted to say that the corn chowder is to die for! And I'm not even a huge corn chowder fan!

I thought the atmosphere was really fun too. I've been there for breakfast and dinner. It's been a while since my last visit, but I remember thinking that the kids who were there seemed to really enjoy themselves.

I just made reservations, thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate it. I can't believe we are leaving in 19 days!!! OMG 19 days. I think I need to start packing now:cool1: :thumbsup2

This is probably a stupid question but does anyone know if I can use my Disney Visa rewards card here or a Disney gift card?

BTW thanks for the confirmation on the kids build your own pizza disneyfanforever54. I appreciate it!

Disney Visa and gift cards for sure, and I imagine rewards points would work too.
Enjoy one of my favorite places to eat!
