Do we need an accessible room?

Background first: We'll be traveling to WDW April 2015 with my mother in law. She has had two knee replacements and a hip replacement and has severe back problems that have necessitated that she uses an ECV (she has her own). She can walk short distances (around the house, in restaurants, etc) but otherwise she uses an ECV. We're staying at the Polynesian because of the access to the monorail.

Do we really need an accessible room? Her concern is the tub/shower. Various sources say that we can get a shower chair from housekeeping and since she can walk around within her hotel room, I don't really know if there's any other reason for us to book an accessible room.

Your thoughts?

I guess I would ask her if she can climb in and out of the tub. I can't, so I need an accessible room with a roll-in shower. If she can get in and out ok, she should be fine in a regular room even with a shower chair.

An ECV will fit in a standard room, even in a Value resort. What kind of arrangement does she have in the bathroom at home? If she uses a shower transfer bench there, she should be OK with one at the Poly. We've always been OK with the ones the resort provides, but I know some people prefer to rent or buy one for the trip.

ECVs will fit in any room at Value - that is where we usually stay and have had no problem. But I would be leary of a regular tub with just the tub chair if she has issuse climbing in. I find when I am travelling that they often dont have grab bars plaeced as I need and then I get nervous about slipping. You can ask for a room with a roll-in shower.
