It's really going to depend. Traditionally October is not a bad time for touring, and basically if you just make it a point to get the bigger rides out of the way in the morning and grab a Fastpass or two you're pretty good. That being said, we were there in October of 2004, the year Florida got hit hard by 4 hurricanes, and the parks were absolutely PACKED because everyone rescheduled for October who had missed their trips in the summer. I was happy I had read the Unofficial guide so often I pretty much had the touring plans memorized.
personally I'd go with one, but be prepared to just wing it if you can.

A "5" is a pretty darn good day at Disney. My default advice is always "GO EARLY!".
Hit the parks on opening.
If you have kids, stroll over to Fantasy Land. If not, your choice depending on what's open. Most of the time you should be line-free for about 1.5 hours. Maybe longers on a "5" day. Enjoy...
