I got an email today concerning my 20th HS class reunion this summer. Hard to believe it's been that long. Anyway, a friend sent me a link to the class of '85's website with pics and everything of their reunion last year. I couldn't believe I didn't recognize most of those people! Then I started to think, do we look that old too? Her response, 'yes, yes, we do'.

When did you realize you we in fact getting old???

At my 25th reunion two years ago, I can honestly say that 90% of the people fell into one of two categories. Haven't changed and unrecognizable. The categories were about 50/50.

So look at the bright side, it's quite possible you are a "haven't changed". :)

I do things that I think keep me young. A lot of my friends are ten years younger than I am. I buy my "play" clothes (as opposed to work clothes) at places like New York & Co and Hot Topic.

Anne (who is very happily a "haven't changed")

I haven't realized it yet. :confused3 Everyone else seems to be getting older but I think I am at a standstill. ;) Amazing how we look at ourselves after so many years!:rotfl2:

I still think of myself as looking the same but in reality I do look like I am in my 30's ;) (can't bring myself to say 'late' 30's :faint: )

Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that I am someone's mom and actually old enough to have a kid in middle school. I remember being in middle school-- it doesn't seem that long ago!!!

--When my wife told me she saw that little plus sign last July....I still think of myself as an overgrown child.
--When someone came into my office last week and saw me squinting at my computer screen and said, well it's time for glasses.

Well, I am from the "class of 81" and for a very long time (probably up until I was 37 or so), I felt like I could pass for late 20s or early 30s. Didn't think I had changed much, even when I looked at photos. But the last 5 years has been "not so kind" you could say. I would say that someone could EASILY put me in the "late 30s" category.

Hey... we are the same age... I have my 20th this year too... and WE are definately NOT old... others that graduated with us may be but not us. :rotfl: :teeth:

My friend says close to 40--- that is even worse that late 30's... 3 years is not close when 40 is on the other end... maybe 21 but not 40

Old is so subjective! :)

My 20th is coming up in a couple of years too. Does NOT seem possible. I have a DS going into Middle school next year and I am NOT ready for that!

I have changed but for the better I think :) I got braces as an adult, I have a lot more self confidence and I feel better about myself.

I didnt go to my 10th because I was in labour at the time LOL. So it will be interesting to see everyone at the 20th.

Class of '88 here, and I got carded at the grocery store last week. I should have tipped that woman! Can't she see the frown / squint wrinkles on my forehead?

LOL! My friend and I have these discussions all the time we are both 42 and she says she feels like she is the age of whomever she is socializing with at the time even if that person is 25! We often mention how people from scholl have aged and we haven't! It is just a number anyway!

Carolinagirl1063-- I graduated from FMU! It was FMC then though, once again showing my age :headache:

My bother is Class of 85. (I was 5 when he graduated) It blows my mind that he and his wife have been out of school for 20 years. (And no I don't think of the as being old fogeys and they certainly don't look "old".)

Age hits people differently. I recently saw two guys I used to work with. One, who is 46, could pass for 32. Another, who is 50, could pass for 65. Funny thing is, both are sort of wild livin', hard drinkin' kind of guys, both real estate lawyers in house with corporations, etc. One looks 15 years younger than he is...the other looks 15 years older than he is.

I think age is largely a "state of mind". Healthy lifestyle and habits help too. I always get the "you live in Hawaii, why don't you have a sun tan". I'm sure those that live in places like Florida and California can relate to those comments too. Usually when I tell people I don't want to look like an old, wrinkled crow that stops why aren't you tan comments.

I agree with Ducklite, at my 20th, it was 50/50. Fortunately, I was in the "hasn't changed" group and they weren't just refering to my appearance. :rotfl2:

My older brother tells me that the 30th reunion is really where you start seeing the change. Fortunately, I am still a ways off from that!

Yes, yes, yes, at my 20th reunion, I was stunned to see so many people that have completely facially and physically changed!!!!

Some are the same and some are completely so different. I say more of the men are unrecognizable due to baldness.

As a "class of '79" I'm very happy to "look" in my mid to late 30's. The bangs cover the lines in my forehead--which are the only "bad" ones, my hairdresser does a great job of covering the grey. I keep the sun off my face, watch my weight, and don't smoke.

And I refuse to look or dress like a middle aged frump. That's not to say I'm running around in hot pants and a cropped tank LOL! But I like fun clothes. I bought a t-shirt a few weeks ago taht says "It's Not A Phase" across the front that I plan on wearing to the next concert I go to LOL!

Anne

At my 20th, I noticed that it was mostly the GUYS that were unrecognizable. I saw one guy whose Mom was friends with mine so I've known him since we were about 6 but I'd been living out of state and hadn't seen him at all since HS. He used to be skinny and had long hair--now he's bald and is quite bulky. :rotfl: He ran up and gave me a hug while I was thinking--Who the HECK is this???

The women, on the other hand, looked pretty much the same. I have some very close friends that I went to HS with who tease me about being Dorian Gray and having a picture in the attic because I haven't changed all that much.

I did laugh the other day, though, at how old I felt. We have this adorable student employee who is a guy--I'd love to set him up with my dd if she were older. :teeth: He and I got in the elevator the other day and we were alone--he turned to me and said, "I've been needing to ask you something for a while." Umm...ok...and I was thinking, "Oh, God, please don't let this kid hit on me." Then he turned very seriously and said, "I have this wool sweater that's dry clean only. Do you think I could wash it on the gentle cycle and lay it flat to dry?" :rotfl: :rotfl: Oh, heavens, I AM a Mom!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Denial! That can last a few years. ;)

I can tell you that I've noticed how "young" some people look these days. My skin just doesn't look that great any more. :scared: And now I'm doing the eyeglass thing...on for the compuer, off for paperwork. :magnify:
