Do we expect too much from our government?

I read lots of thread where the left bashes the right and the right bashes the left.
What do we really expect from our government?
Whoever is in office can't win, because no matter what the issue, they don't respond to the other side's liking.
Is it like a coach or manager of a sports team? When the team wins, the coach is given more credit than is due, and when the team loses, the coach is given more blame than is due.
Or am I just really naive?

I normally don't respond to political posts because they just make me mad. However, I think you're spot on!

I am in complete agreement with you. And not only that, we expect our government to be able to fix everything overnight...we have unrealistic expectations of what is possible and the time it takes to accomplish things.

We tend to forget that our government is comprised of human beings; and none of them are perfect or all-knowing.

There is no way to satisfy everyone, so the problem isn't so much with government as it is with regard to people expecting to be satisfied. Government is a necessary evil, and exists only because the lack of if it is worse.

I also think that while folks have a "general" knowledge of how things get done, most people really don't understand the processes and the full extent (inner workings) of the bureaucracy and politics.

I have a good solution...government stops taking so much of peoples money, then people don't expect as much from them.

If you expect them to take lots of your money and make themselves and their friends wealthy, you'll never be disappointed. :)

If every single government employee was fired tomorrow, my life would be exactly the same, but I'd have more money and less stupid rules to follow.

Very true. Plus, many things people want to pin the blame on the Federal goverment for is really the responsibility of local or state governments, but they don't care.

I often wonder how many of the people who yell the loudest about the Federal budget deficit are the same ones who have $10,000 in credit card debt and can't keep their own house in order? :confused3

Without taxes and the government, most locations would have horrible roads, bridges in danger of collapsing into the water, and Canada could invade us with their mountie's and capture our sunny beaches. It would be horrible, eh? ;) :teeth: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Government is a necessary evil, and exists only because the lack of if it is worse.

truer words were never spoken. :)
