I'm reading my Birnbaum Walt Disney World 2005 Travel Guide, and it says Epcot has a backdoor (secondary entrance) called International Gateway. This would be ideal for us to use the first night becasue we have PS for dinner in the World Showcase area. Does the bus from ASMo stop there? Or will we have to walk through the entire park, and around the Lagoon?

No the bus does not stop there. It is a back entrance for the Epcot area resorts. you can however walk over to the BC or BW and catch a bus to the TTC or DTD and then take a an AS bus to your resort. Longer I admit but you will get a chance to see some of the other resorts.

buses dont stop at IG
you either need to take the bus to front of EpCot and walk through
or take the bus to a different park and then take an EpCot resort bus and walk from there

No, the busses do not stop at the IG, but you can probably get a bus to the Beach Club and walk in. From ASMo, you'd have to connect somewhere.

oops forget TTC from the resorts cannot catch one of those buses from either BW or BC Sorry!

but you can definitely catch DTD bus!

Thanks for the quick answers guys. Now I won't feel like an idiot telling the driver we want to get off at International Gateway...hehehehe There is a boat that goes across the Lagoon right? How often does that run?

There are Friendship boats that run back and forth across the WorldShowcase Lagoon but it is not faster then walking, at least for us anyway. Which country are you having dinner in? If it is Mexioc or Canada you would just walk. If Italy then I can see the boat but if you leave yourself enough time the walk is doable.

Yes it's in Italy, the Alfredo's place. My step father has trouble walking sometimes without taking breaks, so I figure the boat might be helpful even if it's not much faster. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Only two more days

Hope you have a great trip. We had a great meal at Alfredo's this past Jan.

If you enter through the IG, the boats that cross the lagoon may be of no help to you.

Depending on the time of day and the crowd level, there will be one or two boats running.

When there is one boat, it circles the lagoon stopping at, (near) Canada or Mexico (not both),Morocco, Germany and back again.

With two boats, one goes between Canada and Morocco and the other goes between Germany and Mexico.

So you could POSSIBLY take the boat from Morocco to Germany and back track to Italy.

From ASMO I would get the bus to MGM and then transfer to the boat which goes from MGM to EPCOT international gateway. No entry required at MGM as the boat dock is to the right of the entrance (I think).

From there it's a quite a walk to even get to the lagoon friendships boats. You would be just as quick to walk straight to Italy once you are in EPCOT.

I agree with taking the bus to the Studios. From there just hop on the Friendship boat that loads outside the Studios. No admission is necessary since you will not have to go into the park. The Friendship boat will take you to the International Gateway, stopping at the Swan/Dolphin, Yacht/Beach clubs, and Boardwalk along the way. It is slow with all the stops but a nice relaxing ride.

One last thing.

Assuming you arrive at the International Gateway, you are on the opposite side of the World Showcase lake so still have quite a walk. Turn right and walk past France, Morocco, Japan and America as it is a bit shorter than going the other way around.

If walking is a real issue, either change your PS to Bistro de Paris or Chefs de France (or try for a walk-in) both equally as good as Alfredos. If it has to be Itallian, Palio at the Swan is good, and if you have an early sitting, still time to continue your boat trip to International Gateway to see Illuminations afterwards.
