This may have been asked before but I didn't see it anywhere. Does anyone think the opening of Harry Potter world will affect WDW? I love Disney but I must admit to being a HUGE Potter fan:love: It made me wonder if that may be the reason Disney just made that Marvel Comics deal? In anticipation of the competition from Potter world? What do you guys think? Oh and will you visit when it opens?:rolleyes1

If/when we visit WDW again we wil definitely take a day out for HP. After several trips over the years with our DD13, we really have no plans for Disney in the forseeable future. There's a lot of the world we want to see with her before she's grown.

I have no idea how it will effect WDW. On the one hand, many WDW visitors may shorten their stay at Disney to spend time at HP. On the other hand, the new attraction may bring more people to Orlando who will hit WDW as well as HP.

We were already planning on going to Universal this trip since it would cost us $99 total (we have 2 free 7day tickets), but arent taking our car so we decided against it. BUT, if we go to Florida again after it opens then HECK YEAH we are going. I'm a big HP fan. It wont take away from us going to Disney...we probably will do both (since we will be driving there...we will only be 12hrs away by then).

Yeah we are one of the ones planning a day out of our next vacation to hit HP world:eek:. (I was feeling guitly about that ..yea yea silly I know) It would have been perfect if Disney had had picked up HP....oh well you can't have everything:laughing:

We have never in any of our trips to WDW did anything outside of WDW but we will for sure take one day to do HP on our next trip.

Same here...but 2010 can't come soon enough...I'm watching order of the phoenix right now popcorn::

Okay I'm curious about the Marvel thing. How will that affect Universal Islands of Adventure?

I dont imagine going to Disney to see Spiderman, Iron Man and Hulk...etc. Would they open a new park for them since they dont fit into any of the current parks or what?

I'm kind of confused about this too:confused: the articles I've read syas that the deal should not affect Islands of Adventure:confused3 I was like HUH? but other threads on here speculate that maybe space would be made for the marvel characters at DHS??

like pp's, we don't usually do the universal thing, but will be taking 1-2 days off of our WDW plans next year to do universal, and will probably shorten our Disney resort stay by a day too to avail of the benefits of staying at universal for their parks.

My boys would love to see the Marvel Super Heroes at Disney, but to me it just doesnt seem "disney". Its been univeral's thing for so long.

We haven't been been to Universal since 1996, but I can't wait for the Wizarding World to open! DS11 and I are HUGE HP fans! We are going to WDW in 2009, but we are thinking of Universal & Sea World for 2010, primarily to see HP.

If you read the details of the deal, it won't affect Universal's theme parks.

And, I don't think the new attraction will affect Disneyworld in any way. I personally went to Universal for the first time last year, and although it had some nice attractions, found it was a cross between Disney and Six Flags - some was very tacky I though. Not bad, just not something I need to go back to.

Although I loved the Rollercoasters and rides at Universal there is never a comparison as far as service and "magic". I found Universal employees to be rude and unhelpful more than once, the place was littered, and Yes some stuff seemed cheap or cheesy... again, Loved the rollercoasters though! Maybe Disney will open a new park geared towards the Marvel Comics world. It would definately be filled with alot of rides for older people.

from the way it has been explained on several other boards...the contract for IOA's characters will be in effect for several years to come. This means Disney couldn't use them for a park even if they wanted to...which they probably wouldn't. However, I'm not sure if the company gets funds from the park because they now own the rights or not. Anywho, this may be the reason why Disney did not actively pursue the BG/SW parks purchase not so long ago. They already had something in the works

:rolleyes1

I'm not expecting Universal's version of Rowling's wonderful creation to be that great - from photos available online, you can see power lines in the background. These power lines are not on Universal property, and they'll be seen from the Harry Potter area, unless they build a very tall barrier around the place. You'll still the the rest of Orlando from the roller coaster (old dueling dragons), and how magical can that be? It's just a crappy location, crammed into some space that used to be a parking lot, right on the edge of a busy neighborhood (huge school across the street).

I think Disney would have done it much better.

We've never been to Universal Orlando, but we already have tickets for 2010. We probably won't even visit WDW during that trip.

O.K. Someone might have posted this already, but is this true? There is going to be a HP World amusment parK? Where is it going to be? When is it to open? Do they have a website yet?

I will definetly go see HP world for a day on my next WDW trip, but it shouldn't take more than 1 day so I don't see how much it could really affect Disney. IMO, they could have made an entire park for HP, or an entire world for it like WDW and I would have been there. There is so much source material they'll have to leave a lot out to fit it into a land in a park.

Don't forget Disney is only using less than 25% of the land they own. They have plenty of room to build a SuperHero Park in the future if they want.

Right now they are going to sit by and take some of Universal's profits but probably they will either build a "Super" hotel or park in the future.

Some other Disney stories could also be added into a Superhero them such as Hercules.
