Do transfer points combine for one night?

I'm going to transfer points into my account from another member but don't know exactly how many I'll need. If I do an even number, say 100, but only end up needing 95, can those 5 extra be combined with my own points for a night? Or vice-versa, if I need 105 but only transfer in 100.

My sister wants to stay at DVC and knows a member who will sell her points but we all think it would be easier if we do a transfer and I handle her reservation.

I do not know their use year. We will be booking at 7 months out.

Thanks.

Transferred points retain their original Use Year and Home resort.

You can combine them with owned points but you'll have to take those caveats into account.

While you can combine transferred in points with your own points, you can only book a reservation with transferred points by telephone. That can make it more difficult to use those points at the 7 month window. -- Suzanne

Thanks. I was able to figure out all the rest of the restrictions but this one I wasn't sure of -- whether points had to be used in blocks with each other or if they could comingle to make up one night's points.

Yeah, I had just recently asked this question myself. I was worried about having to match up points with reservation points. The only issue is if you have a time frame that is popular, you won't be able to book at 7 months till an hour after everyone else. For us its not a big deal as we are going to use transfered points for SSR.

My guess is no because of personally owning two different UYs and being unable to combine them for a single night. The transferred points keep their resort and UY and you have to use them by the end of their UY. So it would be like having a separate master contract.

I could see if those 5 points were expiring. Do you mean that if a night is 25 points and I have 5 transfer points leftover, I could not take those 5, add 20 of my own, and book another night? I would just lose those 5 points? (5 is just an example)

No, you can do that if you want at the 7 month mark. Once they are in your account, they will function at 7 months as they would if they were all your points. And, if they are the same resort, they'd work that way at 11.

If they were the same UY and resort, you'd even see them online.
