do those cooling towels really work?

I'm talking about those towels/hats I see advertised on tv claiming to keep you cool for hours. I actually have one and use it (I live in Pa), but was curious to see if anyone used them in the wonderful humidity that florida typically has in the summer months

We used the frog tog type towel you can get at Walmart last July. While we only brought them out a handful of times it was very worth it to carry them around. They felt very good around the neck. A couple of the kids even wrapped them around their heads.

The first time we used frog toggs they were great, really cooled us off. But, for the next trip they stopped working and it was just like a regular towel, absolutely no "cooling" effect.

Loved them in the park :) I didn't wear them all the time, but took them out whenever I got super hot.

My daughter loves using one! She usually has it around her neck all day. I don't like them myself, I don't like being wet or having anything wet on me. I'm happy going into air conditioning to cool off.

I used to be a big fan but not anymore. There was one trip where they just felt heavy. I still bring them though, the kids like them.

Per my husband, no. :sad2:

He bought the Frog Togg brand to use at work last summer. He said that it worked for a week or so and then nothing, no cooling effect at all. He reread the instructions and said he was following them exactly as printed. I don't know what happened, or why it quit working, but we wouldn't buy another one.

Yes but not for hours. We would refresh them in the sinks often but they did work well. Just tossed them into my pre trip box a few moments ago.

Not for me.

A regular towel that you can wet down at a water fountain or in the restroom would work just as well.

I personally think it's not worth it. We bought a frog togg to use at a local blues festival (90 degree heat) it really had little effect. I was really bummed thinking it was a magic cooling towel. It's just evaporation that makes it feel cool for a bit. Then you have to wave it around to cool it off again but when it's that hot it doesn't make a difference. Plus you're walking around with a wet towel all day. :crazy2:

I would just take breaks in the air conditioning.

Tried a couple different ones and they didn't feel cool at all. Just felt like a damp towel. Maybe it was because I've only tried them when it was really hot, in the 90's or so. Maybe you feel the coolness when it's not as hot out? Idk. I wouldn't bother with them

I think a small battery-operated fan with mister works better. I picked up one a few years ago at Walmart that is only about as big as a deck of cards. I still end up carrying around a washcloth to mop up the sweat. My head and face sweat profusely in the humidity even if the temps are low.

I don't care for them. I really wanted to love them, since I had read such glowing reviews, but I did the file like the frog toggs worked well at all. We'll stick to a mister fan with ice water.

Yes, we are big fans of these. Not frog togs, but just generic ones off amazon. When my son walked off of the Jedi Training Academy stage one July (practically baking) it was awesome to cover him up with one. We usually always have them wrapped around our neck and tucked under our shirts in the summer. We are hands free now so we don't take in the misters/fans anymore ad these keep us all cool touring in summer.

See, I feel like the wetness of the towel and a little bit of breeze can be a DIY air conditioner. So I really enjoyed my cooling towel. (And I still use it when I get migraines.) It's effective in the heat. But it's not doing to stay cold like an ice pack. You do have to shake them and reapply water. If you coupled the towel with a small pocket fan, you'd definitely beat the heat. :)

I used one with a small light personal fan that hung from my neck and thought that they kept me pretty cool, so I liked using them together and thought it worked pretty well! I'd do it again if we were going in hot weather! I was dreading the heat for our May 24 hr day weekend trip last year and I really didn't feel the heat! So, I'd recommend!

Invaluable for babywearing, but otherwise I would not use them
