Has anyone ever walked into a resort and tried to get a room that night?

We're going to drive up and just go to DTD for the day. The last time we did this DH said we should have gotten a room for the night instead of driving back home. Would we be able to get a decent rate doing this? If I booked online I could get Pop for $118 with a FL rate. But we won't really know if we want to stay until we're already up there...

I have done this twice before, POR and All Star Sports. However, both of those were over 15 years ago.

Yes, I called on my way to an evening at MK in 2009 to get a room at Pop. I was able to get the Florida Resident special too. If there is a special going on and a room available under that special, they will give it to you.

As a matter of fact, There is a sign on the way OUT of Disney property (I believe as you are leaving MK, around the parking plaza) that has the resort reservations phone number to call and get a last-minute room.

I would call, not walk in. We were turned away at Pop before, told the values and mods were booked and the cheapest room we could get (on property) was at AKL. Getting a room off site was no problem, though. You'll find a place to sleep if you need it, but I wouldn't count on any discount - even off site.

It depends a lot on when you are going, but I would venture to guess you could get a room almost without question, if you are willing to saty in a downtown resort. Personally, I love WDW resorts, but if I was just staying for 1 night to avoid driving back, I wouldn's stay in a Disney hotel... you pay a high premium in all of them for the perks which you won't really enjoy in yoour situation.

Try the Hilton at DTD, Best Western Lake Buena Vista, Sheraton Vistana, Royal Plaza, the Wyndham....

Before you leave on your trip, do a google search and pick out a few hotels in your price range and quality range, then make a list of place to call with their contact numbers and take it with you. If you decide you want to stay, just start calling until you find a place you like :)

There are TONS of choices, so just go prepared

I would call ahead.IF you walk in and are fortunate enough to have them have a room, you most likely will be quoted RACK RATE for it.

If you call the Disney line - they will ask you what level you want - Value, Mod etc - then they will tell you what they have available. They will book it for you. We do this when we drive down & get there a day or 2 earlier. Works every time. :goodvibes

Here is our experience -- if you call the WDW reservation line and there is a special going you qualify for, with availability, you should be able to get the room on a special. If, when you arrive, the reservations line has closed and you book your room at the front desk, you will pay rack rate. The one time we did this, we had something of an emergency and had to stay at GF rather than go back to our room at BWV. I knew there was availability with an AP rate, but reservations was closed. The front desk was not able to give us the AP rate -- only rack rate. Since it was an emergency, we paid it. But, it was painful.
