Before we bought OKW, I did a ton of research and even visited the resorts I was interested in before we came home and got on the waitlist at TTS for OKW. Even after staying at OKW and absolutely loving it, the boards sometimes make me second guess my decision, I don't know why! I got into this mindset a while back that I had to buy at BCV or BWV if I ever wanted to stay there. I wonder if others have had this experience? I see a lot of people who love SSR, and then maybe read these boards and wonder if they made a wrong choice b/c of all the negativity around SSR.

No. In fact, the only regret I have had after reading these boards, is that, unlike some others, we weren't smart enough to buy as early as they did! :rotfl: We were among the many "ditherers" who waited years to buy! Oh the vacations we could have had...................!!! :rotfl2:

+1 ... No regrets at all, other than the capital expense. ;)

If there is one thing we should all realize about opinions on the various resorts, it is that they are all VERY subjective. Then, you add the fact that we have all backed up our subjective opinions with thousands of dollars, and we get a lot more drama in some of the bashing of resorts than is warranted.

That's just something we all have to wade through for ourselves during the decision-making process - how much credence to we give to some of the posts we read?

Personally, I think you made the right decision -- you just need to do an add-on! :cool1:

I don't regret our decision but I think I know what you mean. I'm so excited about owning DVC (we bought in July) and am really happy with our choice (SSR) but when you read posts that are negative about SSR or whatever you kind of get that feeling of "Why don't they think my choice is as great as I do?" But it's fleeting because then I start thinking that I get to go to WDW in Dec. 2006, May 2007 and (hopefully) Oct 2007 and DL in Oct 2006. Knowing I have a Disney fix in a couple of months makes me just not care!!!

Plus most of the folks who are bashing SSR haven't ever stayed there. And the root cause of it all seems to be that there are just more owners now which mean they can't book at 7 months and it affects them. Basically, it will occur when the new resorts are annouced imo ... a select group will bash them at any opportunity. :confused3

That said, from what I understand and have seen, it's only a handful of folks trolling on the topic.

Just wait until you get your first case of addon-itis! :woohoo:

No, I do wonder why some of these folks bought themselves however....

By the way, I was not sure I was going to like SSR. I never posted on that, but just wasn't sure. Stayed there and LOVED IT!

I've stayed at places where you could put you motorcycle in the room with you. Also places where the bugs would hide in the corner out of fear.Slept in a car at the beach.

So any DVC resort is like a paradise for us. I chose SSr just for the extra years and discount at the time. I will try to stay at the others when ever possible now that I have stayed at SSR .But it's no big deal if I don't get in .

I will always book at the 11 month mark at SSR and just look to change at 7 if I can.We also love the DTD area and end up there a lot on vacation anyhow.

I do however understand why other resorts are for other people and SSR is not their favorite.Thats fine as I can always get a room if needed

We have been to disney 4x since we bought. I have had no trouple booking at the BCV. We will be at the BCV this month and in Oct. Our buy in was less expensive at SSR and had more years. We also like SSR and enjoyed our stay there last may.:thumbsup2

That's part of the Magic of DVC! Not everyone is going to love all the DVC resorts ... but chances are you'll find at least one that you find AWESOME! :goodvibes

I do have my preferences, but I wont turn my nose up at any DVC resort.

I do understand the OP though.

It's like fighting to get into CRT before the changes. Once you get in, you think, it's a nice experience, the food is blah, and you are glad you did it once. Do you need to do it every trip to feel fulfilled in life?

We thought we would want to stay at BCV every trip when we purchased over 300 points there back in 2003. Turned out not to be the case after we tried SSR. We still enjoy BCV, but no big deal if we cant stay there specifically. If it is a big deal, we use our 11 month window.

I do think people "panic" based on what a few say and go to extremes but that is their choice and their money.

They always use all encompassing sweeping generalizations about SSR and peoples likes and dislikes which are just their opinions and not based on any fact.

To me it is divisive and not in the true spirit of DVC. We are all neighbors and a part of DVC. That is not good enough for some, they must feel elite because their hallway is enclosed and they can walk to Epcot

What's CRT? :confused3

Nope...I'm hoping to make them second guess their advice.... ;)

We're just so glad to be DVC'ers. It took us a few years after we knew about DVC to buy. Like many others the only regret is not having made the decision when it was first presented. You'll find bad opinions pointing at every resort. Unfortunately, they tend to really draw attention, especially with newer members. We're BWV owners, but we only go there once every couple of years. There is just to much to experience and we don't have the time and points to do it all. Yet. :)

You just have to remember that everyone's circumstances, priorities, and preferences are different. It's great to take in the different perspectives and consider things a new way, but in the end, you're the only one who can decide what the best decision is for yourself.

Only when we were first buying. That initial decision seemed SO important. In retrospect, I had four choices WAY BACK THEN....

1. Buy BCV from Disney and pay a premium (resales were cheaper back then)
2. Buy OKW resale (our original first choice) - back then with no pool slide - but low points and big rooms
3. Buy VWL resale and pay a premium because it was so new (this is where my heart was, but I couldn't stand the thought of more money).
4. Buy BWV resale and get a better chance of Standard View rooms while being close to Epcot.

Circumstances - not my own decisions - had us end up with Door #4. We've been so content that I suspect we'd have been content with any of the decisions. Had Disney gotten back to us in a timely fashion, we'd be BCV owners and I think we'd be happy. Had our first reseller not backed out, we'd be OKW owners and I think we'd be happy. Had I waited six months prices on VWL would have dropped and we'd own VWL and I'd be happy.

No, these boards have never made me second guess my decisions.

In fact, they've helped me quite a bit with the original purchase decision and subsequent resale contract purchase. :thanks:

There is no doubt that there are some posters who feel like it is their mission to "convert" everyone to their resort!

IMHO, not only are the various resort comments subjective, but also how each reader takes those comments is very subjective. I've seen a few innocent comments blown way out of proportion by defensive resort owners.

Personally, I like all the information...good and bad. It's my responsibility to sift through the various comments and figure out which ones are representative of a resort and which ones are rare instances.

I think the only ones who might feel like second-guessing the decision are those who:

1. Have never stayed at DVC so have no personal basis for an opinion.
2. Have stayed only once and unfortunately had a bad experience.
3. Have had unreasonable expectations of the "Disney magic" based on other peoples' great experiences.
4. Have a sense of undue entitlement because, after all, "we're Disney's best customers!"
5. Have had a change in life that puts the original decision in question(financial, marital, etc).

I'm sure there are other instances, but for the vast majority of those on these boards, I'd think that there is no second guessing that any comments here could ever bring on! :)

I never let someone else's experience influence my decisions.I am fully confident that DH and I made the right choice for us and have never had any regrets.

Many times I find the negative reponses seem to come from one half of a couple who's significate other on not fully on boardwith their purchase. The other option is people wanting to justify their expensive purchase by making themselves believe their purchase is way better than everyone elses. This is done by bashing on other DVC resorts.

Be confident! You know you did the right thing. And more important you know you made the right choice for you.
