I'm going to Orlando September 23-29. My first day at a park will be thursday the 24th and of course I want to go to MK. My sadness is the PotC is being refurbished until the 25th. Do they ever cut a few days off of the refurbishment schedule? Might I luck out and get a ride on the 24th? My bf has never been to MK and is really bummed to miss it. I could move our day to visit MK to Monday the 28th but I don't want to go on my last day. :( SADNESS!!!

As a side note, I don't have park hopper tickets. :(

Does anyone have any insite to share on refurbishments?

I'm bummed that Pirates will be closed for our trip 9/12 - 9/19. That was my first ride at WDW and it's a tradition that I ride it first on my first MK day :( Sometimes, they will have "cold openings" where they will not officially open it, but will allow people on early. I did that several years ago with Spaceship Earth. Good luck!

Sometimes, on longer refurbishments, attractions may open a day early, maybe two. But generally they are right on target.

I'd change my itenerary if riding POTC is a must-do for you.
I don't usually do MK first, so I wouldn't find it that much of an imposition.

The dis will know a month or so when its will open. In the very least we will know the week of so you can plan accordingly. Current cast members will often say when they are put on a certain ride's schedule. "My friend Jane was reassigned to HM during the refurb, but she is on the pirate schedule for next tuesday" type thing. That implies pirates will be open on tuesday since cast members are being assigned there. Although a few cast members are always assigned to a refurb ride to answer questions and to explain that the ride is down. I think the assignments come out a week in advance.

Splash Mountain re-opened from refurbishment 2 or 3 days earlier than scheduled when we were there this past January. So it can happen, but I wouldn't count on it. I would change your itenerary or spring for park hoppers.

Many time attractions are finished ahead of time, but to try and determine that at this point is impossible.

As a former Maintenance Planner there are things that are put on the schedule to be done, IF NEEDED, and the total time is based on if those things are done. Once they start tearing into things maybe some of those IF NEEDED things are not needed and a day or two are knocked off the schedule.

As many have said, about the middle of Sept. we will know much more if it may open early.

But then of the other side there was the Test Track opening...

Awesome! Thanks guys. As much as I want to ride it, I have a thing about doing MK my first day. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an early opening!

It's hard to count on any of the work being done in Disney somethings finish early and others get pushed back, I'm worried that it won't be open by 10/31 when we arrive. Lol. Hope it gets finished early for you...
