Do prices really go up that much tomorrow?

We have completed 4 cruises. I have never booked a cruise on opening day and thought I got decent deals. Maybe I have been missing out all these years!

Do the prices really go up that much tomorrow when booking opens to the general public? We are Silver.

I had my TA look into pricing today and she put a hold on the 6/17 Alaska. She also priced out the 7/1 sailing which was 1300 more than the 6/17 sail date. We have friends that might be going and they prefer the cheaper cruise. However my friend has to discuss w/her husband tonight.

I however prefer the 7/1 date because it is one less vacation day I have to use for work since 7/4 is already a holiday! So if they decide NOT to go I would switch to the 7/1 sail date.

If I decide tomorrow to switch to the 7/1 tomorrow and my TA does a new hold tomorrow with the 7/1 date will it really be that much more than what she quoted me today? I can't imagine it could go up that much!

The cruise prices might go up depending on the availability of the stateroom category for the cruise you are interested in. I believe the less expensive stateroom in each categories will sell out first.

It really just depends on how many people have booked the cruise and the category you want. As more rooms are booked the price goes up.

This. It is not like the rates go up JUST because it is no longer a certain level booking. A cruise that simply was not really booked the past three days may easily be the same rate tomorrow. Whereas a really unique itinerary might increase on price even during Platinum booking day between callers.

They can, and will, depending. Alaska is popular so there is a good chance it will at least a little. Plenty of first time cruisers will choose Alaska and the phone lines today have been a mess so many silvers might just wait. You can look and see if the price has gone up in the categories already and that might give some slight insight. Those 11 night southerns and Iceland ones are their own kind of crazy for instance...!

The good news is since it is online people wont all jam online at once - get up a little earlier and try to beat others online for the "best" price. I'd guess by evening a lot will have gone up at least a little for that itinerary in the middle of summer.

Edit to add - if your TA already put a hold on the 7/1 there is no need to do a new hold - just pay the deposit and you are set at that price. If she didn't... see if she still can! :)

Yeah, I knew the 11-night Southern was going to be a stretch for my budget, but thought maybe just maybe even an inside would work. First quote that came in on that thread blew that hope completely to smithereens.

Yep. I'd do it if my husband was going to sail with me next year but he has to skip it. I can pay that for 2 people but for 1? Pass.

It's all worked out. I'm slated to be on Castaway for my birthday! :) In 2019, but still. :P

We have a hold on the 6/17 with deposit due Friday. We did the 6/17 since there is another family that might travel with us. But if they decide not to do it then I will switch to the 7/1. I don't think you can put a hold on 2 different cruise dates can you?

You absolutely can... just remember with great power comes great responsibility. As rooms are "booked" - and a hold counts as a booking - the price goes up for others. This sort of thing is why there is supposedly a limit to how long a phone call with a CM can go before you go back into the queue! :rotfl2:
