Do pools ever close down for "accidents"?

Living in a neighborhood with 3 pools they were often closed down in the summer due to "accidents".

When/If this happens at a Disney resort (which I'm sure it has) do they close the hotel pool? If so do they give you a pass to "pool hop"?

I've never heard of this happening at any of the resorts. I mean NEVER!! Sure they've been closed for rehab, which everyone complains about, but I've never heard at any time a pool closed for an unfortunate "incident". Has anyone experienced this?

I know it would be an inconvenience for resort guests, but if this did happen, I would sure hope they close down the pool.

A few years ago the WL pool was closed down while we were there. They said it was "contaminated". I think it was closed for a couple of hours while they fished out the "protein spill"(their word for the deposit) and added chemicals.

Gary M-LOL, thats too funny, "protein spill" you had me laughing so hard I think I woke up the children.

It also eases my mind that they actually DO close it down. I know its kind of weird to think about it, but we leave on Saturday!!! and I'm thinking somethings got to go wrong.

We stayed at the BWV just a month ago. While we were there, I had a very informative talk with a lead lifeguard. She said that accidents do happen and they do close the pool. Shocking the pool can take up to half a day. But now they have chemicals that can do the trick in half the time or even less.

You should also be happy to know that they test the pools 3x daily and have a chemist who also checks the water daily. In fact, she did one test right in front of us.

It happened every couple of days when we stayed at AKL. They would just close the pool for 2-3 hours. They didn't give out passes to "pool hop".

What about a carbohydrate spill? Seems like it would be a lot more likely at WDW.

I recall reading something a month or two ago on these boards about a large "accident" that caused SAB to close for almost 24 hours. BC guests were allowed to hop to the BW pool during that time period.

I too remember hearing about the SAB accident. We are DVC members who had hopped over to the CSR pool to swim and upon arrival the pool was cleared due to an accident. We waited about 30 minutes before leaving without touching the pool.

We have seen the pools at WL and SAB close for almost 6 hours on two occassions. No fun at all! No hopping pass provided either...

We were at BW at Labor Day this year and SAB at Beach Club was closed due to a "protein spill" from 12 Saturday until the following morning. They allowed everyone to come over to Luna Park and use that pool.

I was actually really disappointed last year. We were at the BCV quiet pool when my daughter picked up something on the steps inside the pool she thought to be a brown leaf. After realizing what it was and seeing more brown piles on the steps I told her and my husband and son to get out of the pool. There was a couple near the steps at a table that told us that a man had just left with his daughter who had that accident, the dad apparantly thought she only got it on the cement by the side of the pool as he was carrying her out of the pool to the bathroom and he cleaned that up (and then left). Well I let the other people in the pool know and then I called the front desk from the pool phone and they said they would send someone over. We then left and went and showered and dresssed. We we came back downstairs around an hour later and there were people swimming in the pool again. I really don't think they could have added chemicals that would have cleaned it out that quickly.

That's gross!!! I would think there is a way to avoid this?? I don't know-I guess it's a hazard of swimming in a public pool, though. Yuck!!

We were on the Disney Wonder last February when the kiddie pool was closed, drained and scrubed due to someone ignoring the "No Diapers" signs that were all around the pool.

We stayed at Coronado Springs and the BIG pool was closed 3 out of the 4 days we were there! We did get to swim in it the last day, for about 2 hours and than found it closed AGAIN!
