Do pine cones deter spiders?

I've heard a rumour that pine cones deter house spiders? What do you think DISers? Loada rubbish or fascinating fact?

Been to enough mountain homes surrounded by pine trees yet sporting spiders that I'm gonna disagree on the reality of that one...

Sea air seems to deer them. I live on the sea shore and in a year I've seen 4 spiders - two of which were tiny. Used to live in a seaside town - not many spiders again. Used to holiday in a tiny seaside village on the southern tip of Devon - never once saw a spider. But living in London and in the suburbs? Saw spiders routinely. Could be luck?
