Happens all the time with mine. There is an "st" in the middle and many folks reverse the t and s. It is just a two syllable name.

Yes, so often that I am surprised when someone actually gets it right.

not my last name, because it's a very common, scottish name, but my maiden name is a common, English word used in everyday conversation, so people made a lot of jokes about it. and my first name is VERY unique, so it gets mispronounced ALL the time. it's rare for someone to get it right the first time.

Yes, our last name is 2 very common words together. However, many like to put extra letters/ sounds in it.

They did it all the time with my maiden name. It was a long Italian name, but really easy to pronounce. There was only one way to pronounce it that made any sense (if you said it the way it was spelled), but people seldom got it right. They almost always changed the "s"s into "z"s and the "a" at the end into "i". I never really understood why. Now I have a really easy name and I love it. Still have to spell it for people though and I don't really understand why.

Yes- VERNON- how hard it that! mrs vernoon , var-non, and many other, and spell it wrong too?

Yeah, and then they can't spell it. C'mon people, my its only a couple of letters long.

Not my last name, but as you can probably guess a lot of people can't handle my first name. "Gee-off", "Gof" (golf, with a silent "L"), "Godfrey", "Greg", "Gregory", etc. I once had a co-worker (who was the spitting image of Wilford Brimley) who kept calling me "Godfrey" (Geoffrey is derived from Godfrey). I thought he was just being cute, but I realized after some time that he honestly thought that was my name... by that point I didn't want to risk embarrassing him by pointing out his error, so I just answered to that name when Ed called me.

When people ask me my name so they can write it down, I usually just spell it out "G-e-o-f-f"... but you'd be amazed at how many people STILL write "Jeff". Unless it matters, I just let it go.

It was awesome when I visited the UK for the first time, and people would actually write down my name properly without additional help from me when they'd ask my name. I SO wanted to live there! :)

All the time. Not just pronouncing it, they spell it wrong too. Its funny at crystal palace and Liberty Tree in Disney when they try to pronounce it. Doctors offices etc.

no, but the misspell it, or ask how to spell it and it's pretty much as common as "Smith"

Yes. Mine has an R in the middle and most people leave it out when pronoucing. My maiden name is extremely common (like Smith or Jones) and I wish I had kept it. My first name is Mona and that even gets mispronounced.

People rarely say my last name correctly. It's only four letters so you'd think it would be easy but no.

All the time. The funny thing is that DFIL changed the spelling when he was in college. Now, the name looks Hispanic and DH is a blue eyed blond (Polish, German and Swedish ) We've had people at restaurants give us funny looks when they call us by last name. They must think that we're trying to steal someone's reservation. ;)

The good thing is that it's easy to tell if someone calling really knows you. If they mispronounce the name, they're probably a telemarketer. :lmao:

My maiden name was a 10 letter German name that most people could pronounce. My married name is a 5 letter name changed from the original Polish spelling and no one can pronounce it. :lmao:

Yes.. and its not that hard to pronounce! You just say it like its spelled... My first name too.. its not Helen, or Helena.. Its Helene.. yes they are ALL different names... but I will answer to any of them.

Several years ago at home I got a phone call and the person calling wanted to know how to pronounce my last name. It is the same as that of a fairly well-known historian and the caller was going to a book discussion group and wanted to be sure of the pronunciation.

No. My last name isn't all that common, but it's comprised of two very common words. Sometimes they'll stress the wrong syllable (there are two), but that's it.

No, it's pretty easy. On occasion someone spells it wrong and I can't figure out how they can screw that up.

My maiden name was always spelled wrong but said right.

Yes, terribly. But I can't blame them - it is a long Polish name with a "w" pronounced as a "v" and another "w" that you don't hear at all.
