LOL,
Now I do both so I'm a "traitor" to both sides.

I was just reading an amusing post on the resort boards, another off site/onsite question.

And some one said "why would anyone stay offsite". to which I replied

Let me count the ways....

Does anyone get this question when folks find out you are staying offsite.

i do both as well.

so get teased as a "traitor" by my local DVC friends who always stay onsite.

(but when i'm paying less for a week in a 1200 sq ft 2BR villa 2 miles offsite than i would for a tiny hotel room/studio for 4-5 nights onsite, including paying extra for parking...i'm willing to negotiate.)

at least i kept my magic bands from my last onsite stay so the people at the parks won't know to mock me... ;)

My sister and I are are going just to the Halloween party, arriving 10/16 and leaving 10/18. We are staying at pop for the first time ever on site. The rate was decent, and everyone says the pop is their favorite resort. To tell the truth, I am kind of dreading it. We normally stay at caribe royale, which is all suites and about the same nightly rate. We are used to having more space, and a fridge and micro in the room. Lots of people rave about pop, but to me it screams disney's motel 6. Im hoping the magic bands and onsite magic make up for it! It is only 2 of us so maybe it won't be so bad!

In all the years I've been going to Disney both as a child and adult, we have never stayed onsite. Personally I am a complete cheapo and can't justify spending the $$ to all be crammed into 1 room just to say I stayed onsite. A good friend of mine (who has no problem dropping $10K for an onsite vacation) looked at me like I had a 3rd eye when I told her this. So, they are coming with us on our upcoming vacation and I rented us a 6 bedroom house in WH. When I told her and her DH the cost for their half, the DH thought that was per night (lol) and was floored when I repeated that was the total for their portion of a 7 night stay. I'm hoping they like this vacation as much as their onsite ones (KMFX!!!)

I am regularly amazed at the extent to which some people have committed themselves to believing so completely that if you visit WDW you have to stay on site. For some people it goes beyond a preference based on practicality or personal enjoyment but rather it's an almost fanatical and blind devotion. Some of the posters on the Trip Advisor WDW forum strike me like that. Dis forums seem pretty open and way more useful. I can understand somebody preferring on site but after experiencing on and off site I don't have much patience for somebody who can't even understand why somebody else might prefer off site. Hope that makes sense.

What I find so amazing about people that usually stay onsite and then think about staying offsite for a trip is that they seem to be at a loss as to where they're going to eat. I aways get a laugh when someone asks where do you eat offsite. No offense to anyone but if you were visiting any other city or vacation spot in the US what would you do about eating. People seem to see the rest of the Kissimmee/Orlando area as a no man's land. Disney is not the only thing in Orlando. We stay here when we're not going to Disney. I don't stay onsite, a day at Disney parks is enough "magic" for me. I like the peace, quiet and space of a pool home/townhouse. But to each his own.

I posted on the thread referenced here and, to be honest, I don't get why some care so much about the hotel choices of people that they don't even know. For an (I assume) adult to resort to personal insults over something like this is just strange to me. I'll be honest-I really, really, really don't care what others think about me based on my choice of lodging in Florida. It has never occurred to me that a stranger on a forum could possibly care about where I lay my head.

Outside of DIS, I've never had anyone care about whether I'm going to stay onsite or offsite.

I've done both but those times I am going to Florida for vacation not just Disney. If I am going to just Disney it is cheaper to not have to rent a car, purchase food and then cook it. I want to feel a bit spoiled when I am on vacation.

I wouldn't worry at all what other people say because I'd rather go to Disney and stay offsite then not to go to Disney at all.

Some people just care deeply about everything.

They were placed here on Earth to straighten the rest of us out. :rolleyes1

This, seriously. It doesn't matter that much! It's all about figuring out the tradeoffs of time, cost, convenience, transportation... I honestly wouldn't get too upset if someone tries to give you grief about staying off-site. Says more about the person giving the grief than you.

I agree its about the tradeoffs each has its benefits. When we stay onsite we feel obligated to stay within Disney World confines with restaurants and such when we stay offsite we can manage to do things a bit cheaper at restaurants here and there but not exclusivley due to the timing and size of the parks and such. We also have mixed the two and it seems like a good plan now if I could actuallly find truley cheap nice places and I mean 50.00-75.00 a night and not in February but at all the times the kids are out of school at anywhere offsite that was also not a dump we would be offsite converts and could convince more others to go.

We're staying offsite for the first time this trip. We're just at a point where we want more room and we don't want to pay Disney prices for more room. All of our previous trips (9 of them) have been a combo of onsite Universal and onsite at Disney. I haven't experienced any funny looks, but we only have one set of friends who go to Orlando as often as we do and they have been staying offsite for awhile.

I am one of those who asked where to eat offsite. Not because I see the rest of "Orlando/Kissimmee as a no mans land" but because I haven't eaten offsite and appreciate the input of others who have on places to try and what they recommend. Same thing I do when I go anywhere. I research , inquire and read reviews.

I would go crazy now if I have stay onsite now. Number 1 they do not have enough TVs in the room. Two I like having a free breakfast. Free wi-fi is a must too. I can get a suite that sleep 6 for under a 100 dollars a night. I have plenty of food choices where to eat offsite.

Don't get wrong. I have stay onsite and enjoy.

Last time we went to Orlando, not only did we stay offsite but we also barely bought any meals onsite.

We stayed in a 1500 Sf three bedroom condo at Bonnet Creek. Rented a mini van. Bought groceies at Publix - lots of high quality food. Had healthy breakfasts in the unit. made lunches and brough them into the parks in a softsided cooler that we stored in the bottom of the stroller. Usualy ate dinner at the condo- many times I grilled chicken, steak etc. We did buy some snacks drinks and treats at WDW.

Anyway, this did work

Anyway, this did work really well. I think we ate healthy food and it was economical. And we stayed really cose to the parks. We happen to own Wyndham Points so it makes sense for us to stay at Bonnet Creek and we liked the freedom and comvenience of having a car. The drive to Epcot is seriously like two minutes and the other parks are almost as close by also.

Staying onsite is great too, but this worked well for my family. We all are going back in April 2015 and are staying at WBC again. Might eat some lunches onsite this time but our kids really enjoyed being back at the resort in the late afternnons where they can swim and rest and then we have appetizers followed by a nice family dinner in the condo and the adults enjoy some adult beverages.

I also don't see how it matters to anyone where you stay. A hotel room's a hotel room. Doesn't affect them, non of their business. Are they trying to justify the small fortune a Disney resort room costs?? LOL

We will have a magical time onsite or offsite! (although it happens to be that we're at CBR this trip again :cool1:)

Actually just the opposite. some one asked the question on site vs. off site and I mentioned why I stay offsite if I'm paying cash.
And unfortunately I was then labeled an "EYEORE" and told that I obviously don't have any disney magic.
It was then suggested that I should stay off site instead of running the magic for everyone else.

So although I realize this is a disney board and the majority of folks do stay on site, I was wondering if anyone else runs into such venom when they say they are staying offsite.

Most people I now don't visit WDW enough to know the difference between on-site vs. off-site. Most people around here have their favorite places around Disneyland, but few have been to WDW.

In terms of the actual trip, the only people who would really see where we're staying are the other off-siters. Once we get to the parks, we're all the same. Lots of people who stay on-site drive to the parks, so no one could determine where we're staying just because we're not coming by bus.

It's kind of like a cruise ship. The only difference in the fare is where your cabin is located. Once everyone is on deck or in the dining room, you can't tell who paid $1000 or who paid $10,000.

Heat kills my appetite. I only use the fridge for leftovers. Microwave to heat leftovers. It my vacation too and I refuse to cook. I management fast food restaurant and management a concession too.
