Ok, so when we go look at houses, do we take pictures? I plan to take detailed notes, but I would like to have something to jog my memory. Mainly, the exterior, followed by things I like and don't like (i.e. kitchen is great, backyard is tiny, etc) Do people do that? I lived in the same house with my parents from birth until I got married, so I don't really know how to look, if that makes sense. I've apartment-shopped before, but that's a different ballgame.

Yup - we did! Mostly to take images of places we thought we'd like but also to take photos of the nightmares our realtor thought we should move into!

I suppose you can. We took a tape measure and made sure we had all the measurements of furniture that we had. Some of our bedroom sets are large and we did take it into consideration.

Normally the house would have a flyer or a packet so taking pic's really isn't necessary.

We did take detailed notes. I would have a camera handy just in case.

I took the camera just in case I wanted to show the house to a friend and get their opinion.

We did..........it's easy to forget, especially if you are looking at more than one house. It was nice to be able to email pics to family and friends for their opinions also.

We took a bunch of picts. DH & I were relocated & we were not always together when looking at houses - so we took picts to show each other. I always asked the realtor if it was ok before I snapped away.

We took along the video camera as well. I don't spend that much money without being pretty darned thorough!

NOw if you did a video cam you could have pictures and the comments as well.

Mikeeee

we also took some pictures as we went out with our realtor one Saturday and looked at numerous houses all the same day so we wanted something to look back at at the end of the day..

Holy cow...I haven't seen you post for a long, long time Demo!!!

I remember you posting that your wife was pregnant (this was a long time ago, a few years I think). Hope all is well in your life! Glad to see you again!

Oh, and to the OP...I think taking pictures is an excellent idea. I think it would be really hard to remember everything otherwise.

I know people who take photos and videos. Great way to keep the homes straight in your mind.

First walk through - pictures
Second walk through - more pics and tape measure

When we sold our house last year our realtor made up brochures with pictures and left them near the front door for people that came through to take. The pictures included the outside, kitchen, master bedroom, and family room. The brochure also had the measurements of each room and the features of the house. I think it's pretty common for realtors to do that for their listings. But take your camera just to play it safe. Good luck.

I wish we would have! I kept detailed notes, but I kept racking my brain for things that would have been easily answered with pictures.

One thing about the house we're buying (we close on Tuesday!!! Come on, Tuesday, hurry up!!!) is, the outside of it isn't so great, but the inside is absolutely great. The realtors didn't put up any pictures from the inside on their website, which I think was a big mistake. I like this idea of brochures people are talking about on here.

If you are looking at builder's model homes chances are they won't let you take pictures, just an FYI.

We didn't take pictures when we looked at houses because they all had pictures on the websites but we did take notes on the back of the spec sheets from our realtor--they are very helpful. After you go through a few houses you will pretty much know right away if you like it or not but the notes are still helpful.

I think bringing a camera and a tape measure is a great idea. All the homes we visited had those brochures, but some only had two or three pictures in them.

Funny story: we were on a commando buying mission in FL, so we were taking pictures to keep the "contenders" straight. I'd noticed a thong (not the shoe kind :rotfl:) lying on a barstool at one the homes and later asked DH if he'd seen it. He hadn't, but in reviewing the photos, there it was.

We ended up buying that home, and it got to the point even the Realtor called that home "The Thong House". We later found out that the young wife had already moved out because of her husband's "indiscretions", so DH still refers to him as "Thongboy".

In all the places we've lived, resales here have a brochure - picture of at least the front, all room sizes, lot size, etc. In some cases it's just a print of the MLS listing, others have additional pictures and info. I just assumed this was done everywhere as part of the marketing of the home ... :confused3
