I am seeing some cute stuff on etsy, do people use them?
Some people do. But I would think the umbrella spotter thing would be frowned upon due to the "no saving of lounge chairs" policy.I am seeing some cute stuff on etsy, do people use them?

Maybe. But not everyone texts and uses apps.the app and the texting feature likely means the wave phones' days are numbered

wave phones will have to stay until the nursery and kids clubs can be switched to contacting parents through the phone apps.
So someone has to go out and get a smart phone just so the nursery/kid's club can contact them on a cruise? Not everyone lives with a phone in hand day in and day out. Some people just want to get away during a vacation.should be fairly easy. When you register your kids you include your phone info. Gotta think DCL would like to shed the costs of maintaining/replacing/supporting the wave phones. Some can say not everyone uses smartphones, etc...but by the same token, you can't be forced to carry a wave phone around all the time either.
I haven't been on a cruise yet but fail to see the big difference between carrying a smart phone or carrying the wave phone - apart from the fact most people already have at least one smart phone in their family.
i put my phone in the safe once we board and dont take it out until the morning we leave, so we do use the wave phones for nursery communication. So someone has to go out and get a smart phone just so the nursery/kid's club can contact them on a cruise? As a compromise, how about just having a pager system onboard? Oh, wait, the Wave phone does that.

We use the umbrella finder on CC to help the kids find us. My wife and I spend very little time in the water but kids love Pelican Plunge. They both wear glasses but can't wear them in the water so it helps them find us easier.
I can't stand trying to text on the wave phones and we all use our iPhones to take pics so we will be trying out the texting app in less than 2 weeks.
The reason I cruise is so I can't be contacted...is that mean?So someone has to go out and get a smart phone just so the nursery/kid's club can contact them on a cruise? Not everyone lives with a phone in hand day in and day out. Some people just want to get away during a vacation.

Not at all. A "vacation" is defined as "a respite or a time of respite from something". Putting phones away, and "unplugging" is part of taking a vacation. The reason I cruise is so I can't be contacted...is that mean?
