If I purchase a 3 day 2 park pass for US/IOA and only go 2 days, do I lose the other day or can I use it at another time (next year)?

Those tickets are only good for 14 days from activation date. Activation would have to occur at the gates for the clock to start ticking but any days you have left after 14 would be lost. Universal does not sell non-expiring tickets.

And the clock started ticking even if you used them at City Walk the night before to get into the clubs for free. That was several years ago and so I don't know if that is still the concept but it happened to us :) We got there late that year and went to City Walk so our tickets were only good 2 more days at the park. But that was all we planned on anyways.....

I was wondering the same - coming over from the UK I'm worrying about the situation with the volcanic ash, if I can't make it (and I'm wishing that won't happen) then will my tickets unused still be good next summer. I've got a lot coming up in work and doubt that I'll get the time off later in the year.

The expiration does not start until you first use them. If you never arive in the first place you will still be able to use the tickets at another time.
