I was wondering if most people dress up in pirate gear for the pirate party? We have late seating for dinner and I don't really want to wear pirate gear to dinner. Our son is wearing his captain hook costume and our daughter will wear something pirate like, but as for us I'm not sure. What is the percent of adults that wear pirate gear for past cruisers? Thanks!

DD14 is wearing this:

My husband already had a t-shirt with a pirate on it, so he'll wear that.
For me, I got a skull & crossbone rhinestone iron-on at Michael's and put it on a plain t-shirt.

Did you make the one for your DD14? That's awesome. If not, where did you get it? Thanks!

On our Med cruise last year (folks had to worry about luggage weight for this one!), this is what I observed:

About 80% at least wore the bandana that DCL provided for free at dinner. About one third wore pirate tshirts, eye patches and/or Disney pirate headgear that they bought in the on ship shop. Perhaps 10% dressed up more than that, if that.

IMO, if you are going to dress up....own it :cool2:. You will get comments and attention, most of it positive. Our tablemates and servers were delighted when we showed up...that made it fun! Some fellow cruisers mistook me for someone who worked on the ship...that can feel a bit odd. On the whole, we enjoyed it and will dress up for pirate parties in the future. It makes the pirate party all that much more fun :goodvibes

I got it on etsy. The seller is Melaniegail.
We leave in 1 week from today and it hasn't arrived yet! I hope it gets here soon.

Everyone gets a pirate bandana at dinner. It's up to you whether you want to wear it or not, but it sounds like you're already into the spirit of things.

You won't look out of place if you do, and you won't look out of place if you don't.

The dinner staff on pirate night dresses up, and we wore our stuff to dinner. We don't dress over the top or anything, but it seemed like a lot of folks just wore their pirate attire to dinner.

But whatever you are comfortable with is all that is important.

Don't know how accurate this is. 2009 on the Wonder they did NOT. 2010 on Magic they DID. I think it might only be on longer cruises they do this.....maybe? Might be different on the Dream since it is the debut season.

I have found that the majority of people do not dress up- probably because they book the cruise and do no research and don't know about pirate night until they are on the ship......

Like others said- everyone gets a bandanna at dinner and they sell some pirate stuff in the shop- like eye patches, fake earrings, etc.

If you do dress up- you won't feel weird, though- you'll just look like you did some research ahead of time :thumbsup2

I agree with the above--the majority of guests do not dress up. The entire staff is dressed. SO, whatever you choose to do, you will fit in.

DVC hands out temporary tattoos, there are bandanas at dinner on the longer cruises, etc. Some people wear normal clothing, others a pirate themed t-shirt and bandana, others go "all the way." You will not be out of place no matter what you choose.

Me and my family won't be dressing up even though we know a lot about the pirate night :snooty:

pirate: In 3 days out whole family will have great pirate outfits on. Were on vacation to have fun. Check ebay which will send you to great shops. pirate:

Don't count on bandana's we were on the wonder a 5 night cruise and they were not handed out at dinner.

If you have the room in your luggage, do pack those pirate costumes, especially for the kids. Before we left I almost thought we'd probably just skip most of pirate night because we are neither "into" pirates nor dressing up, but I am so glad I did pack the inexpensive Walmart pirate costumes for the kids and a few bandannas for us. We had SO much fun! The vast majority of folks were not dressed up but we did not feel out of place at all. We felt like we were perfectly appropriate. DH and I just had the bandannas and the kids looked adorable in their costumes. The entire day was a blast - the best day of our trip. In fact, DS was so excited to wear his costume, he wore it almost the entire day, not just that night. :-)

They handed out bandanas on the MR 2/13 cruise. Like others have said, you won't feel like the odd man out if you do or don't dress up. The kids and I dressed up and we had a lot of fun with it. I say go for it!

So who wants to tell me how to post pics??? LOL

We were on the 2/13 4 night Dream cruise, they put the bandanas in our room the day of the Pirate party. We did plan ahead though and my 8 y.o. DD and I wore matching pirate t-shirts, bandanas and eye patches, my DH wore a black t-shirt, bandana and eye patch and my DS6 wore a Jack Sparrow costume he already had. We had a great time dressing up and a few people asked us how we knew to come prepared, wishing they had as well. I would say more people don't dress than do but there were def. some people that did. Quite a few wear the DCL bandana that was given. We had a lot of fun as a family dressing up. The kids were especially excited about it and it def. added to the night. pirate:

We LOVE pirate night! Lots of people were dressed on our last Magic cruise in January. Check out my DH's parrot! lol
