Do Men Love Disney Resorts, too?

Hi Ladyhawke10

Like you when I was a kid my family could barely afford to go to WDW maybe for a day every 7-8 years. We never had the opportunity to stay onsite. So now as an adult it's an awesome feeling to be able to take my DW and my DS5. We're heading back in June this year and already my DW is sick of me talking about going. :teeth: She loves WDW too but I'm fanatical. I think I'm a big kid at heart really enjoy every aspect of WDW. It's funny of all the parks too my favorite has to be MK. It's classic... the rides we went on as kids, the castle, the architecture, attention to detail, friendly cast members, etc, etc.

My son and I sit up before he goes to bed (now that he knows he's going back) and talk about our trip and what we are going to do. It's just so fun and yet another thing that brings us closer together. How cool is that!!

My DH does not like going to Disney at all.

I told him on our last trip that I was going to leave him and put the following in my personal ad

MUST LOVE DISNEY WORLD AND WANT TO GO FREQUENTLY!!!!

Oh, I'm feeling depressed :sad2: I don't think my DH cares one way or the other about Disney. He lets me plan vacations there but I do all the research and work involved.

He puts up with my obsession - which I guess I should be thankful for that - but to have a conversation with another Disney addict in the household would be my dream.

I guess it could be worse. :confused3

I, too, married a Disney lover - one of the best things I ever did (for more than that reason, but it never hurts...). :love2:

You can check out my signature, and see where DH elected to go for his 30th birthday celebration - it was WDW, hands down. We each have wonderful childhood memories of trips with our families, and now we can share it together. And we both LOVE the resorts. I gave him sole choice of resorts for this trip, and he agonized between AKL and WL - in fact we're still switching back and forth...

Now, our goal is to find a way for at least one of us to make a living off our Disney addiction! :rotfl:

I'm female, and the princesses make me gag.

I go anyway.

This one loves it there! Never went when I was a kid but have been bringing our boys about ten years and now dragging my 6yr old grandson along too. Any excuse to go. I do all the planning and we bought into DVC last year. Ok I do let the wife pick a couple of the restaurants.

"My question is: Do men find Disney as cool even though they don't identify with the princesses? When I see all the posts about honeymoons in Disney, I just wonder if the dh do it for their dw or if this is just as exciting for the guys? I have no idea...I'm just curious."

I just do it for DW and the kids. Been that way since we first went in 1975. Hated all 34 trips since but it keeps them happy. And can't stand those princesses, particularly Ariel's shells, Pocahantas's legs, or Jasmine's harem outfit. As I tell DW everytime she thinks she has caught me ogling, "They just get the ugliest girls to play those parts." Hate the corny comedy of Hoop-Dee-Doo so much that I have only been 20 times. And that stupid circus with fancy French name they have over at Downtown Disney West Side -- geesh, they don't even have any animals. And all those restaurants and not a good one among them. Who really wants another helping of prime rib at Cinderella's Castle, stuffed flounder at Flying Fish, seafood buffet at Cape May, Japanese style grilled steak and lobster at Teppanyaki, German sausage and a stein of beer at Biergarten, cheese soup at Le Cellier, or crab legs at Fulton's. And too many of them have those ridiculous, oversized, cartoonish creatures meandering about who are always trying to force you to take their autograph and picture and not one of them has the courtesy to say a word to you. I just keep floating from restaurant to restaurant hoping that someday I'll find one I like.

And all those boring things in the parks. Doesn't Disney know that 3D went out in the 50's and that everyone really hopes that some day Indiana Jones takes one of those stakes popping up out the floor right up his .... So what if you get dropped in an elevator? You can do that often in many projects in the city. And since I have all girls, they all have to go see that Tarzan who must be on steroids fellow at the stage in AK and all I have to look at is plain Jane and some Monkeys with humanlike curves on wheels. They have even dragged me down there at Christmas time to see those Osborne Lights and all I can think is who is the poor shnook footing the electric bill to keep a gazillion lights on.

And the worst thing about WDW is that they make me play golf on those perfectly manicured courses. Give me the grass like hay and potholes in greens from a well-worn public course any day.

Just curious...as I child I grew up obsessed with Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and wanted to look like Alice in Wonderland quite badly.

Staying overnight at Disney was the ultimate...and I actually never got to do it until I was an adult! So our resort trips are very thrilling to me, especially to stay at the deluxes since it's a far cry from what we could do in my childhood.

My question is:
Do men find Disney as cool even though they don't identify with the princesses? When I see all the posts about honeymoons in Disney, I just wonder if the dh do it for their dw or if this is just as exciting for the guys? I have no idea...I'm just curious.

Thanks for input!

I love WDW and it was me who talked the entire family into going back in October 2002 and my wife fell in love with it ever since and we are hooked! My favorite resort is the Poly and I don't want to go any place else. I love everything except the price and wish it was cheaper to stay at the Poly so I could do it 3 or 4 times a year! I let you in a little secret and I'm sure you will find it crazy, but I don't care. I told my wife when I die I want to be creamated and my ashes scattered in the lagoon overlooking MK and the beach area by the Poly. That way my soul will always be at peace. I told her to do it secretly and tell no one until it's done. No headstone or casket for me, thank you not! That's how crazy I'm for Disney. Call me crazy but at least I have passion in my life and Disney is my hobby. Flame away if you must! Is that a good enough answer for you Ladyhawke10! LOL!

That is very cool and one of the reasons I want my family to go to WDW as much as possible. I can't think of any other place to go as a family. I remember when I was a kid we hopped in the car and went to see MT Rushmore then returned home. I will never do another boring vaction like that again. All I remember was the 16 hour drive and seeing the mountain for a hour then getting ready to go back home. BORING! How can you go wrong with a trip to Disney? You can't IMHO!

Who needs Princesses when you have Mickey, Buzz and Goofy?! Yes, I enjoy WDW and I'm 54. Of course, my DW enjoys seeing the Princesses and the looks on the little girls' faces when they see them. Aside from that, we really have enjoyed the resorts we have stayed in and we enjoy looking for all of the little secrets around the World. Our last trip, we managed to find the party line phone in the MK. There's always something new to do or see.

:bounce:  :bounce: Two years ago I told my DW I wanted to celebrate my fiftieth birthday at Disney!!!!! This year we are going back to celebrate HER fiftieth!!! Then in December we'll be back because I (we) love
the parks and resorts at Christmas time!!!!! Yes , we men do LOVE Disney as much as our DW's!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cheer2:

My DH is fascinated with the technology - the engineering, animatronics, etc. Every trip we take one of the tours so he can learn just a bit more. I love the Hall of Presidents as seen from the audience seats. DH loves how it works behind the scenes! Same interest from a different perspective.

I have turned my wife into what they joking reffer to as Disney Freaks. The kids would rather go to Disney then anywhere else. At 1st my DW just put up with my Disney obsession but she now has been converted. :)

That's my DH too - That & the attention to detail on such a grand scale.
He loves WDW every couple years, where I love WDW a couple times a year. But he still has quite an opinion on what resorts to try. He still tells people what a great place it is & that they must go at least once. He still chooses it over other options I have offered, including cruises, all-inclusives in the Caribbean, Vegas etc.....
So, he might not be obsessed & reading the Boards & leaves the planning to me, but it appears that WDW is still his preferred vacation destination.

DH likes WDW, however not nearly as much or on the same level as dd and myself. My brother and the kids are the big fans at his house. DSIL likes it but thinks too much about the cost. Maybe it is a genetic thing that determines which of us will become Disney obsessive!!!! DB and I never went to WDW together as kids so it wasn't a learned thing.

My DH loves Disney & WDW. He has always been a Walt Disney fan. We have many books from years ago. When we finally went to WDW he was like a 5 year old. We go yearly in August, but he would go more than that.
Or as he says he'll go himself if the the kids can't go because of school.

Nope, don't like it one bit, and after my visit this coming October, I won't be going back again until Oct. 2006. Uh, wait, that didn't come out right.

I'm a DH and really enjoy WDW!! I just don't ask anyone for directions on how to get places!!! :confused3 :teeth:

Oh my exH was more of a Disney fan than myself. On our honeymoon, he booked us at PO for a week, but when we got on property, he surprised me with the GF Honeymoon Suite. It was the most amazing room...I can't even tell you. Being able to look out my many windows onto the castle was magical. Then we could walk out 10 steps and eat at the concierge lounge. Even Kevin Bacon was next door staying with his family!

So yes, some guys really enjoy Disney and resorts! Now if I can just work on the current DH!
