Do magnets stick on the Magic stateroom doors?

Planning a trip with extended family and was thinking about giving some door magnets as Christmas gifts. However, I noticed that a couple of the sellers online noted that the Magic and Wonder doors have been painted so many times that they may not stick. Has this been your experience? We are on deck 7 if that makes any difference. :) Thanks!

Yes, the thin print magnets may not hold on Magic/Wonder. I don’t think it varies by floor. Regular magnets and Neodymium magnets still work.

Could not get the thin magnets to stick on our door on the fantasy last month. We had previously sailed in the staterooms right down the hall, and the magnets worked there fine. Maybe it varies by stateroom door?

Depends on the thickness of the paint on the doors. If a door has been damaged too many times, and repainted, the paint is too thick for the typical brown, rubber fridge magnets.

On Magic last week, my printer-thin magnetic sheets would not hold 😒 The thicker magnets worked fine.

I make magnets two ways, and both have worked on all 4 ships on all of our doors.

1. If I am making magnets I think we will use on future cruises, I arrange all the images I want on a Power Point slide or Word document. I think group all the images and save them as a single jpg. I then upload that image to Vistaprint and have it printed on a car magnet and I cut each image by hand. Works great and the magnet is strong.

2. For things like porthole decor, I print, laminate, and attach neodymium magnets to the back. That way I can remove them and use them on whatever I choose for our next door.

I have had issues on some doors and other doors were perfectly fine.

I've also had the same problem with either a thick painted stateroom door or just old weak magnets I've used for a few years. I got a pack of the magnets you stick to business cards. Just stick (peel and stick) the new magnet to the backside of the old magnet. Sometimes I use 2-4 magnets depending on the size of the old magnet so it doesn't blow off when someone wind tunnel's the hallway.

I use magnetic pages and print on them and they stuck on our door on the Magic and the Fantasy in Oct.
We had 7 or 8 on and they all stayed fine.

I used the Avery print magnets and they did not hold up well on the Magic. I brought some super strong magnets with me just in case and definitely needed them. I never had any issues on the Dream or the Wonder (but those Wonder cruises were several years ago, probably before a few extra coats of paint).

I used the button magnets from Wal-Mart and our magnets worked fine on our stateroom doors on the Magic. The magnets were behind card stock laminated paper. We were on the Magic December 2018.

So glad OP asked this question. The same magnets that held up for us on the Dream and Wonder constantly fell off our door on the Magic. I thought it was the weather, but sounds like stronger magnets would be a good idea for our next cruise.

I found that the smaller magnets are the ones that don't seem to stick well. The bigger ones (with more magnet surface area) I've never had a problem with.

I had read that magnets do not stick well to the concierge doors on Magic, can anyone confirm this?

No, that’s on Fantasy/Dream. On those ships, the doors are covered in a wood veneer and require neodymium magnets. On Magic/Wonder, the concierge staterooms are mixed with the regular staterooms on deck 8 and have the same doors. On those ships, it depends on the number of layers of paint applied to this day.

We have never had a problem with our stateroom doors on the Magic. However, most of our magnets are printed on magnetic sheets. We were last onboard 9/2019.

This is what I do and I have never had an issue. These magnets work great. I use shipping tape to apply them to the back of my laminated image
