My dilema: Monday in June or Sunday in July?

Did people find that less guests attended their weekday weddings? I like the idea of saving money on a Monday... but does that put people out too much by asking them to travel and take time off from work?

My ceremony was on a Monday. Most people got to Disney on Friday or Saturday and stayed to Wednesday or Thursday and made a vacation out of it. I think most people will have to take time off. Even if you have a Sunday wedding - most people will have to take at least Monday off from work - unless they plan on flying home right after the wedding and reception. Everyone came from the NY/NJ area for our wedding except for two couples that came from Florida. They are the only ones that left right after the reception (which ended at 3:00) so they could go to work on Tuesday. We had an IllumiNations dessert party the night of the wedding that they did not attend.

I'm interested in this too. FMIL is afraid that FSIL&FBIL won't be able to get off from work...She is also worried where her other son (Other FBIL-didn't want to confuse them) would be a that time. That cuts our guest list in 1/2! :lmao:
So, I'm hoping for a Tuesday event...I'll take Monday if I have to...but I'm curious about this too...

My wedding is going to be on a monday and everyone is thrilled that I did it that way. They are traveling on Saturday and Sunday then leaving Wednesday or Thursday so its like a mini vacation for them. :thumbsup2

maybe Monday is the way to go then...but then we end up in between seasons. DF wants value season...Is he really going to know the difference? :lmao:

We're doing Columbus Day 09 and that's enabling people to go who couldn't originally because of time/school etc. At most the kids at the wedding only have to miss one day of school, and the adults one day of work. And we've got people from New Brunswick, Every state in New England, and Texas coming to our wedding. We also got a 500 discount from the Roots for having it on a weekday! :thumbsup2

Meg that was a good idea choosing Columbus Day weekend! I never thought of that. My only reason for picking Monday was that anytime I travel to Disney, I leave on a Saturday and I figured that I wanted to get married asap so that I can have a nice long honeymoon so I said Monday was perfect. Everyone agreed but the only flack I am getting is that my wedding is the day after the Super Bowl. :rotfl:

Ours was on a Monday, and it worked really well for getting cheaper airfare (since Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are the cheapest days to fly). Plus it gave people the weekend to themselves.

The only thing that didn't work was the ability to swap out a rented tux that didn't fit. All the local vendors' warehouses are closed over the weekend, so they can't replace any style or size that isn't popular enough to be on hand at their shop.

We got married on a Friday. The people who matter will be there.

Thanks everyone for their responses! I guess planning and hoping it isn't too much of a problem is the best way to go! Also, I agree with the idea that the people who matter will be there.

Our wedding is a wednesday and most people are making a vacation out of it but that has a lot to do with the summer and all as well! Like a pp mentioned i'm sure if they realize how much they mean to you they can figure it out!! :goodvibes

We got married on a Monday. The majority of our guests turned it into a mini-vacation. We flew down on Saturday morning, and the majority of our guests either car caravaned or flew down on that day as well. Plus most stayed until Wednesday before returning home. For us it was all about the cost. Our minimums were cheaper, airfare was cheaper, hotels, many of our vendors, etc. We actually only had one couple who made a day of it. They flew down in the morning and left half way through our reception to catch their flight back. I was awesome that they did that for us!

Regardless there will be people who moan at first but if you point out that it's all about the cost they will understand. And if they really want to be there they will try to make it :goodvibes

Where did you find the airfare info?

I totally agree! We're hoping for a Wednesday wedding (according to some superstitions it is also the luckiest day!:cool1: ) Our family will be flying in the prior weekend and staying for at least the week of the wedding and some are taking advantage of the long journey and flying to New York for a few days after the wedding.

Its true what everyone is saying. Those who want to be there and that matter will be there no matter what:goodvibes

Our choice was a bit different. We went for a Wednesday as all our guests (except 1) are travelling from the UK. We figured the majority of people would travel on the Saturday or Sunday, have a few days before the wedding and then a few days after before travelling back. As it turns out they are all having 2 weeks out there. They are either going out the week before or having the extra week after.

We're flying out on the Friday before and it also gave us a bit of time to sort out the wedding license, suits, dress steaming etc. We have a fitting for the suits booked on the Monday for delivery on the Tuesday which is when they are steaming my dress.

I like that idea. We were going to fly out on the Saturday but I was kinda thinking it was going to be tight! Might go Friday instead! Which gives us extra time in WDW:yay:

we were married on a Thursday and loved it! We had a lot of people ask us 'Why a thursday???' leading up to the wedding, but our guests loved it! They had an excuse to take the day off! :)

The Sat/Tues/Weds thing is a precedent in the airline industry. Fridays and Sundays have always been the most expensive days to fly b/c that's when everyone wants to!

For research and tips, check out www.farecompare.com. To check prices on multiple airlines with one set of dates, try www.bookingbuddy.com. And once you've found the exact flight you want, you can track its price at www.yapta.com so you know when to buy it.
