Do I understand this correctly? When returning from DL to GC ...

... do you have to walk all the way around to the front entrance? If so, is there any kind of short cut to get there or do you walk all the way thru DTD and take a left past the convention center? (That route is based only from looking at the google earth maps) I believe I've read that the DTD entrance from GC is one way - you can enter DTD but can't return that way.

Is it perhaps simpler just to go into DCA and use that GC entrance? I requested the monorail courtyard and that seems like it could be a better option but I don't quite have a grasp on the lay of the land either.

TIA!

There are no shortcuts out of DL (unless you use the monorail). The quickest way to GC is to exit DL and head to DTD. Proceed past World of Disney and start looking towards your left for an alley (I think it's the second one, the first one is a gate that is usually closed). I can't remember what store it's near; I think it's one of those teeny bopper girl stores like Libby Lu (or something like that). Walk down the alley, take a right, go through the sliding glass door and you're in the convention section. Take a left to get to the lobby.

-or-

Just cut through DCA to the GC gate. If there's a line to get into DCA, the above is the quickest.

There is an entrance to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa located in the Downtown Disney District, in between Sephora and the future location of Studio Disney 365 (formerly Club Libby Lu).

Guests may enter and exit the Hotel through this entrance. For the safety of our Guests, there may be times that you will be asked to present your Key to the Magic Card.

Yippee, that is a relief! Thanks for the info! I really thought I read that the DTD door was an exit only. It must be another exit I was thinking of.

The exit I think you are thinking about is one where guests can leave the hotel (maybe a stair exit?) but it's locked from the outside. The Downtown Disney entrance is much bigger and open.

There's a totally different door that you're thinking of. I've read about it too. It's not the one that is between Sephora and what used to be Libby Lu. The entryway between those storefronts is a path that leads to an automatic sliding glass door that leads to a carpeted walkway (stairs on the main part, but there's a ramp for people on wheels), or the reverse if leaving GCH and going to DL. :)

Then there's the entrance to DCA.

And there's also the entrance at the driveway, which is the area that faces PPH, there's the big pretty HUGE automatic sliding doors, but the only reason to use those doors is on first arrival if you're staying there, or if you're going to/from PPH.

So many entrances and exits!
