Do I really need to find a fake flight for DME?

Hello! We are heading down in April and at the time we booked our flights, the only flight home was in the morning so we decided to stay at The Hyatt at MCO for the last night and just spend the whole day at a park.

We have DME booked for the way down but we'll book the return once we get down there by asking at the front desk. Can I just explain our situation, that we would like to leave as late as possible, or do I need to come up with an actual flight number to give them?

I'm guessing we'd want to pick a flight that leaves at 9pm or later, since that puts us on a bus around 6. Any suggestions?

Some folks say a flight number is not needed but things may go more smoothly if you do have a flight number handy.

Trouble is, a few CMs are low information voters and need a whole number to work with using their reservation screens as opposed to two numbers separated by a colon.

I would not fool around with the flight number business. Just call the direct number for DME: 866-599-0951. Have your reservation number, date, and time you want to leave the resort handy. Ask the cast member to book your resort to MCO transportation departing the resort at approximately that time. This number will connect you with a DME representative, not a Disney cast member. The Disney cast members typically know only how to book DME with flight numbers. The DME representatives handle these requests routinely, for example when someone just wants to get to MCO to pick up a rental car.

We did this exact thing in December. We were staying the night at the MCO Hyatt and wanted the lasted pick up possible. I called DME directly and told them exactly that. They said 9:00 pm was the latest. It worked fine, but it was just a small van and we were the only passengers, so it wasn't as fun as the regular Magical Express.

That sounds perfect, thanks! I'd be a little disappointed too in not getting the nice big bus, but I think that's a fair trade off!

This statement startled me, because I’ve never found the Tragical Express ride back to MCO to be fun....

Haha, yeah, maybe "fun" isn't the right word! I have just always enjoyed taking the big bus with lots of other families and the TVs playing, etc. The van at night with just the driver and us was slightly awkward. Seemed more like an uber rather than the Magical Express. But as mentioned above, it was a fair trade off. We got to stay in the park much longer and really make the best of our last day.

I did try finding a fake flight number, but since I wanted to stay until at least 9 it was super difficult to find a flight leaving around midnight!! I figured I'd call and ask for a late pickup and they were fine with it!

Yeah definitely the fake flight number. I called in one time to schedule DME inbound but I was actually flying in on a cargo airline so they were not prepared for that. I finally was like...Delta Flight 1. Problem solved.

I had something similar to this situation come up during my last trip. My trip got cut short by a day due to MCO being closed because of a hurricane, my airline added extra flights and used flight numbers from flights they had used for other flights in the past, for example, the one they used for mine was from Halifax Nova Scotia to Edinburgh Scotland so when I had a cm at the resort try to update my DME departure with it they couldn't find it. Instead, they need up just creating a departure slip based on the time I neded to be at the airport.

The very late flights are frequently international. A midnight flight would get you a 8p pick up.
I don't know why posters obsess with fake flights. Easier to just ask for what you want

I stayed overnight at the HYATT on DEC29th 2020 and we did NOT any problems what so ever. We actually had the ME bus all to ourselves and drove off at 8:15am to WDW. When I called the ME# ( I booked a very last minute trip) I explained my flight and it was no big deal. I would hope the reverse situation could be done too, GOOD LUCK.
