Do I need to get traveler's checks?

Let it be known that it has been a LONG time since I have been on a major vacation!

Will I be able to use my checkcard or credit card everywhere with just a little spending cash?

Are there ATM machines in the park or at the resorts?

Traveler's checks are a pain, but I know they are safe if they get lost.

You should be fine with your checkcard, credit card and a small amount of cash.

There are ATM's inthe parks and resorts.

If you are staying on site you can charge your purchases back to the room (and have them delivered free to your resort). The only time you really need cash are for some of the snack carts at the parks.
I, personally, would not bother with TChecks.

We go to Disney at least once a year and never get Traveler's Checks anymore. We use our debit and credit cards for almost all our purchases except, as Gail mentioned, for the snack carts. There are even some fast food places that take cards now.

The last time we used TChecks, we found them to be a pain so we now go with the debit card and one major cc and find that it's so much easier.

I haven't used TC in over 15 years. I traveled a lot for business both domestically and overseas and never felt like I needed them.

As long as you are comfortable with credit and ATM cards you should have no problem. Just be careful with making a lot of small ATM withdrawals - the fees can eat you alive. It can cost $4+ for a $20 withdrawal so it's better to get one withdrawal of $100 (or more) than 5 $20 withdrawals.

If I travel out of the US I usually get spending money for cash purchases at an ATM at the airport in the currency of the other country. You generally get a better exchange rate on credit cards than with traveler's checks.
