Do I need to bank 2013 points to book for May 2014?

Hi,

I currently have 265 2013 points. We are not taking a trip this year, but are planning a trip for May 2014 at our home resort, SSR.

I went into the DVC site and selected my dates for a total of 263 points. When I neared the end of the reservation process it indicated I could either use my 300 points from 2014 or borrow from 2015. BUT... I want to use my points from this year.

My use year is Feb and I bank at the end of September.

Can I bank these points early so I have access to them for our May trip?

I'm confused a bit.

Yes, you can bank some or all of your 2013 points at this time; you don't have to wait until September 30 to bank your points.

By banking your 2013 UY points into your 2014 UY, you'll be able to use those banked points for a trip in May 2014.

Keep in mind that banking points is an irrevocable transaction. Once banked in to 2014 UY, your points cannot be 'unbanked' if you change your mind and decide you want to use them for a trip in your 2013 UY.

Those Feb 2013 points need to be banked before you attempt to do any reservation. You can bank them at any time before the end of your eighth month in the use year, including now. It can be done on line by going to your vacation points pages or you can call MS.

September 30th is your banking deadline, in other words that is the last possible day you can bank your points without losing them. You don't have to wait until the last possible day to bank them. You can bank your points at any time during the first 8 months of your Use Year.

Correct. Points are received April 1, and expire March 31 of the following year. If you have 82 banked points now, they expire 3/31/14 and cannot be banked again. They must be used for reservations up to 3/31/14. Your 2013 points can be banked anytime before 11/30 for use between 4/1/14 - 3/31/15.

if you have banked pts from your 2012 UY, those pts are now valid from april 2013 - march 2014. those pts may not be banked again for use in april 2014.

if you have 2013 UY pts that have been banked, then those pts should be available (as of may 2013 for your home resort) for booking april 2014 (along with your 2014 UY pts and borrowed 2015 UY pts).

Points can only be banked once. You can't keep rolling them over year after year.
