Do I need insect repellant in February?

Never having been to California before, I have no idea how buggy it is and when. I have tons of bug spray and will probably just bring it anyway, but for argument's sake let's just say my space is limited. Are there lots of insects in/around Anaheim in late Feb/early Mar? We don't have a really big West Nile problem around here, but I like to keep DD4 safe from bug bites nonetheless....

Thanks for your input!

I have never experienced bugs/mosquitoes in DLR. I would imagine it is too cold for them this time of year anyway and if you ever did need repellant, it would be in the summer time.

In all the times we've been to DL, we've never experienced any kind of bugs or had to use insect repellent.:thumbsup2

The same as what the others said. I have never had a bug/mosquito problem at DL. I think you only have to worry about that in the summer when your camping by a lake or somewhere in the mountains. We don't even own bug repellant!

We have never seen or had a problem with bugs. Exposure to any insecticide exposure would be worse than a bug bite unless you are talking about naturals. Even stuff with DEET is suspect.

Our previous trips to Disneyland have been in Feb. or Mar. and we have never had problems with mosquitos. Although the days can be nice and warm the evenings can get quite chilly once the sun goes down so I don't think it's mosquito weather.

I tend to agree. (I didn't buy the bug spray I have- it's a long story, but lets just say I have more than I will ever use.) When I do have to use it on DD (only at dusk in the summer around here when we plan on being outside for quite a while) I put it on her clothing only, I make her hold her breath, plug her nose, and close her eyes when I spray, and then as soon as I am done I scoot her far away from any residual fumes. I do want to prevent her from getting WNV, though, so I try to make sure there are no breeding grounds on our property and do spray (her, I mean- we don't use pesticides as I garden organically) when absolutely necessary. (I had patients with suspected WNV before we could really test for it, and it was not pretty.)

Anyway, thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll leave the repellent at home, and if I encounter a swarm anywhere, we'll just go indoors.

Where I live in the summer(if home) we have mosquito's, but the MCD keeps them fairly well abated. There was one case of WNV 30 miles from here. I never seen a mosquito during our August trips.
Have fun.

I've never even thought about bringing insect repellant to DL. The only place in SoCal that I think I've seen more than a couple of bugs was probably the SD Zoo, but it has never been bad enough for me to think about taking precautionary steps for the next visit.

I don't even remember the last time I got a mosquito bite, to be honest. That's not to say there aren't bugs in SoCal, it's just not a big problem, especially in winter.

Leave the bug spray at home and save room in your suitcase for souvenirs!

:)
